In 1972 I ate WWII combat rations and the chili con carne was good then, too.

“I remember as an army cadet in 1986 eating Vietnam era rations”

And in 1970 the Navy was handing out C Rations packed during WWII.

The kids can bring a sack lunch from home if they don’t like the cafeteria food.

The containers most of our current groceries come packed in surely won't last a fraction of life that delicacy.

Put meat, fish or poultry in plastic bag or container, fill bag or container with water, force out ALL the AIR then freeze.
Will be as fresh as the day you bought it even 5 years later.

The 1944 pound cake was great, served in 69 at Khe Sahn, in a can.

This was posted here yesterday, and I had this to comment:

I was going to post this but had a busy day.

Without regard to the children/school lunch question, my question:

How is it possible there is so much money to be made in school & prison food to have meats kept in freezers for 4, 5 & 6 years? It costs money to run freezers & freezer space is at a premium.

Who made all the millions of dollars during the ‘storage phase’ and who made the $$ selling ‘surplus’ meats to the school district?

Are we looking at a situation mirroring the Fred Monem/Oregon Corrections food scandal from a number of years ago?

http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/03/fred_monem_fugitive_in_oregon.html

Who got the kickbacks???

This is much, MUCH bigger than simple ‘out of date’ school food. Someone needs to be asking the right questions.

I ate a 1962 Tuinal in 1988.....it was an old bottle from before my mom had thyroid surgery when I was 5

The overamped thyroid was giving storms....acute adrenal surges

It tasted fine but not very nutritious

Barbiturates were old school drugs for anxiety prone women....they were like an instant drunken euphoria....very poor for driving

Like most fun things today.....prohibited....only pentobarbital in migraine meds survives

I ran into a few guys selling fresh meat the other day. Fantastic stuff! Not sure what kind but I think I’m developing quite the taste for it. None of that stale vault crap for me. They said I probably never had anything like it and they were right!

Rings a bell. Said he had a diner back east and I should stop by sometime. Said he’d love to have me for dinner. You don’t meet friendly folks like that often in the wasteland.

Sort of reminded me of this nice family I met outside DC once. Self employed folks. Had a crazy old father they took care of. Wife was a great cook though.
