In the past few months, the Capitol Hill Police has recorded at least three instances where their officers accidentally left their loaded Glocks in bathrooms WAIT, HOLD UP, WHAT?!
Roll Call, which broke this mindblowing tale of stupidity, reports that two of the guns were found in the Capitol office complexes itself: one in the bathroom of the Capitol Visitors Center, casually wedged into a toilet seat cover dispenser. One was reportedly picked up by an 8-year-old boy touring Speaker John Boehners office with his parents. (Lets repeat that: An 8-year-old tourist found a Glock in Boehners office.) The third Glock was discovered casually chilling in the open at the Capitol Police headquarters building.
This is how casual were talking about, by the way:
The alarming part is that these are the only three incidents Roll Call knows about, since the Capitol Police are not required to disclose such incidents. Their sources indicated that forgotten Glocks were commonplace: None seemed surprised, and two offered other examples of officers who were investigated for leaving their guns unsecured or unattended. So far, only one of the officers has been reprimanded and placed on a six-day suspension without pay. The other two incidents are still under investigation.
It is quite possible that the Capitol Police Department was having an Easter Egg hunt, except instead of plastic eggs full of candy and temporary tattoos, they hid shiny Glocks that lack traditional safety mechanisms, are constantly cocked, and will immediately fire when the trigger is pulled. We guess thats how policemen tasked with guarding our governments security celebrate Easter?
“casually wedged into a toilet seat cover”
As a long-time permit holder and regular carrier, that one is mind-boggling.
“you left your glock in the bathroom again.”
“was that wrong?”
I am more apt to lose the Mrs than my piece.
Stupid doesn’t cover this kind of carelessness. Stoned, on the other hand ....
why would you remove your gun when you go to take a dump?
With as much criticism as Glocks get on this forum, I'm surprised to hear the Glock didn't just discharge itself while laying there.
Imagine if that 8 year old accidentally discharged the weapon he found!
He could have killed himself or others.
That Police Officer should have been fired immediately.
And of the weapons found, what if Jamal the Terrorist happened to be visiting the Capitol and was the finder?
Allah Akbar!
But remember, only the police are responsible enough to be allowed to have firearms.
Butt cheek holster?
Why haven’t I heard about this on the news? /s
LOL
I’ve seen this alot in industry. Well, not leaving guns laying around, but employees that just don’t care.
It happens when managers fail to rally their employees... when employees don’t particularly like their manager... they just don’t give a crap.
I would like to think that our secret service agents are more professional than your average Joe, but its still human nature. I think they just don’t care anymore.
I’ll bet they don’t screen people as they leave the Capitol Building.
Not that it would be right to take one home.
There is a market segment made entirely for holsters that don’t fall when you drop trou.
Treasure Hunt. I assume that they is no inspection at exit points.
Why should they. Most of us don’t. Look who we sent there for them to protect.
Exiting persons are assumed to have gone through security on entering, so they usually are not checked again.
So any enterprising person could reasonably have walked off with a CPD pistol and vanished it without a trace.
Because it is heavy and with the utility belt it drags your pants down to the floor. Some of the floors aren’t very clean.
