The 16-year-old Baltimore teen who received the "slap heard round the world" from his mom for participating in Monday’s riots admits he’s “embarrassed.”
"I understand how much my mama really cares about me,” Michael Singleton said in an interview with "ABC World News Tonight." "I just got to try to do better."
Toya Graham, a single mother of six, was praised as “mom of the year” for her actions, which were caught on camera by ABC 2 News.
"As long as I have a breath in my body, you will not be on the streets selling drugs,” Graham told ABC. “You’re just not going to live like that. Not with me.”
"She didn't want me to get in trouble [with the] law,” Michael acknowledged to CNN. "She didn't want me to be like another Freddie Gray."

The mom did a good thing. Discipline is lacking everywhere; in all races and economic levels.
If the mom becomes s symbol for better parenting; more power to her.

Being embarrassed is a sign of a conscience. That’s a good thing!
Unfortunately, she is also a symbol of what is wrong in society. Six kids, no Dad and doesn’t work....
Growing up in the 50s and 60s, we of course did not riot but if we misbehaved a neighbor would spank us, send us home, call Mom, she would spank us, and when dad got home he would spank us (usually with not too much enthusiasm) but we dang well only got that treatment a time or two, WE LEARNED.
Yeah, I’m thinking that getting bitch slapped by your mommy all the way home has got to do some SERIOUS damage to your street cred.
I’m looking for a video of this mom chasing and slapping her kid, with Obama’s head superimposed over the boy’s.

My only surprise is that the mom hasn’t been arrested for “abuse”. Think about that if she was white.

I recall embarrassment being quite the motivator when I was a kid.

Exactly, I got spanked by my uncle. The adults back then had a responsibility toward the future generation to correct them. I remember I got reprimanded by my teacher in 4th grade for saying a bad word. Now today, no body cares or afraid to correct or else abuse charges would ensue.
