Ah, c'mon: Trijicon ACOG TA-30. Best combat scope, bar none. Rugged, precise, great reticles, solid illumination. Expensive? Sure - but what price do you put on you defense system?
If it's good enough for our armed forces, why settle for the knockoffs?

I’ll eventually get an ACOG, but that’ll probably have to wait until next year.

If I actually intended to go into combat or only had one rifle that needed an optic, I might consider shelling out the ridiculous amount of money for trijicon or nightforce or whatever but I don't in both cases and the fact is, the Leupold AR Mod 1 I mentioned is a good little AR scope for less than $600 and the Vortex is a really really good scope for about a grand. It has an illuminated mil dot reticle, front focal plane, 6-24x magnification, a zero stop, large very precise tactical turrets with positive and repeatable clicks, side focus, robust construction, and an unlimited lifetime warranty all for about a grand. A 1-4x Vortex more suited to an AR platform retails for around $600 or half the price of trijicon.
