So, why isn’t Apple Manufacturing in America? They’re Rich.

Let me ask you another question. Why aren't the US companies on this list manufacturing in America? These are just the 52 largest of the over 400 companies that do business with FoxConn, the company that assembles for Apple.

Now, that you probably have NOT been able to answer that question, I will answer your question. Apple IS manufacturing in the United States.

Many of the components of the iPhones and iPads are made in the United States. . . but more importantly, Apple manufactures the Mac Pro in Austin Texas and Assembles the iMacs in Elk Grove, California.

Wow, what a list.

B-b-b-but... whenever something goes wrong anywhere at Foxconn, it's always gotta be Apple's fault, right? /s

They want to make sure China gets the business. Besides that, slave labor is is the ultimate origin of the profits they post.

Thank you for the clarification regarding Apple’s U.S. Manufacturing...

My comment was meant to be tongue in cheek, but I never tire of the knowledge Base of Posters here on FR.

Regarding your list, I’ll bet all those Companies combined make less Profit than Apple.

Anyone else remember the time when Microsoft had to lend Apple some Money to stay afloat?

I don’t opine for Apple Products, but I do wish I bought their Stock way back when. LOL

Shoulda, Coulda, Didn’t...

No, because it never happened. That is a myth promulgated by Microsoft's FUD department. I have shot that myth down so many times I have lost count. Microsoft settled a LAWSUIT which it was losing big time and would have had to pay out (and did eventually) BILLIONS. Here is a link where I just finished explaining it to another Freeper.

Essentially, Microsoft paid Apple $150 Million as a downpayment on future royalty payments that eventually totaled as much as $2 billion over five years for the in-suit infringed patents and copyrights. There was a lot more to the settlement, but Steve Jobs put together a package that allowed Microsoft to get out from under the lawsuit without having to admit fault or go to trial. The record was sealed for ten years, but in 2007 the three interlocking agreements were released for everyone to see. One had to read all three agreements and connect everything to learn exactly how they worked together, but it all hinged on Microsoft buying $150 million in preferred, five year restricted, non-voting stock as downpayment on all the rest taking place.

When all that went down, Apple had more than $2 billion in cash and other liquid assets in the bank, and was operating in the black, and had just purchased NeXT for $450 Million. They were doing fine. Apple just banked the $150 million from Microsoft.

Here is an article from ZDNet that also covers the same data. . . it’s not quite accurate, but essentially gets it correct.

Try to post something you actually know something about, Ethan. The workers on Apple's assembly lines in China are paid from three to seven times the Chinese minimum wage. Every time there are openings on an existing Apple assembly line or a new assembly line opens, thousands of workers apply for each available position. They are sought after jobs. That is not the sign of "SLAVE LABOR", or slave labor working conditions.

With the cost of living in China versus the cost of Living in the US, those pay levels are the equivalent of being paid between $23 to $52 per hour for factory work. That is NOT SLAVE WAGES. I've told you this multiple times. These are facts. I've provided links proving these facts. YOU prefer to distort the facts to present a lie because you want Apple to look bad.

China has a growing middle class and Apple has been fostering it by the use of its contracts with its contract manufacturers and suppliers. Apple has its own paid employees as monitors in each of its suppliers and assemblers to assure compliance with those contracts and working conditions specified. Sorry, you are wrong.

Sorry I didn't catch that tongue in your cheek. . . but thanks for the opportunity to educate the Apple ignorati lurking on this thread. Perhaps even the Apple haters may even pick up a clue, but I doubt it. (Grin)

A bs analogy if ever there was one. It isn't about Chinese standards of living it's about US workers standard of living. Apple manufactures in China specifically so they do not have to pay American workers $23 to $52 in the US. You really are a fanboy or whatever the hell it is they call people that have their noses stuck up others asses.

Well, look at the bright side. At least you won't be on the wrong side on these two again! GRIN!

I tried to talk my mother into buying AAPL when it was at $40 a share before two spits. . . but she was happy with her mutual funds. I keep track of those mutual funds, one of which last year paid 87¢ on $10,000 for the whole year! and the other lost $565 on $20,000. GREAT investments! Glad I got her out of them finally.

No, it is not a BS analogy for the workers being paid a living wage. The argument was not why was Apple manufacturing in China. It was that the workers in China were slaves. I merely demonstrated to

EVERY company who can goes where the wages and costs of manufacturing a sufficiently high quality product are lowest. That is just the facts of the economics in a world economy.

YOU obviously couldn't answer the question I posed in reply #22 about why all of those American companies were not making their products in the United States. Look at it again in light of what I just told you and the companies' names you see on that list. You also failed to read to the bottom of the post where I stated that Apple is manufacturing the Mac Pro and the iMacs in the United States.

Apple has documented that 1.3 million jobs were created in the United States which are directly attributable to the existence of Apple and Apple products. Apple just announced that 670,000 jobs have been created in the EU in a similar way. That is one hell of a lot of economic activity for just one company.
