Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the comic store...
Archie Comics announced Friday that it would pit its freckled, red-headed boy next door against a maelstrom of toothy proportions in time for the July 22 release of "Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!"
The forecast for the single-issue "Archie vs. Sharknado" mash-up calls for the fearsome fish to rain down just as the students of Riverdale High start summer break.
"It's Sharknado, people will die," "Sharknado 3" director Anthony C. Ferrante, who penned the comic, told The Daily News, "And if we tell the story really well, they're going to die horribly.
For Ferrante -- a self-proclaimed comic book nerd who grew up reading stacks of Archie tales -- it's a childhood dream come true that started at last summer's San Diego Comic Con. The lighbulb went off when he commissioned a Sharknado-themed Archie drawing from artist Dan Parent as a lark.

I thought they killed Archie off last year.

I thought I recalled that Archie had come out as Gay in the last Archie comic and was shot dead by a Right Wing Christian fanatic to end the series.
I’ve got Archie Meets KISS. I’m never going to read because the contents are almost certainly terrible. But I do enjoy seeing it on my shelf.
No. They added a new character to archie comics. A homosexual and a new (platonic) friend for Archie. Who got married to another guy, with all the archie comic characters attending the ceremony.
Then they had Archie killed off when Archie took a bullet meant for his homosexual friend (an elected senator who supports gun control). The killer was a stalker who worked as a busboy at the soda shop.
Well, it’s good to know (if somewhat spoilish) that Archie survives his current battle with Predator . . .
