Hidden cameras show airport workers stealing

MIAMI (CNN) - Inside a plane at Miami International Airport, baggage handlers are going on a shopping spree with passengers' bags.

What they don't know is that they are being recorded on a hidden camera. The Miami-Dade Police Department set up the camera as part of an ongoing police investigation into luggage thefts by the very airport workers who are supposed to get bags safely onto planes.

"It's a problem we all face," said police Lt. Pete Estis. "We will continue to be proactive until we can see that the claims of pilfering through luggage will actually decrease."

And these insider thefts just don't happen in Miami. A CNN analysis of passenger property loss claims filed with the TSA from 2010 to 2014 shows 30,621 claims of missing valuables, mostly packed in checked luggage. The rest occurred at security checkpoints. Total property loss claimed: $2.5 million.

John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York topped the list of airports with the most claims of thefts from luggage, followed by Los Angeles International, Orlando International and Miami

Hmmm, one wonders if Obama's entitlement society might be one reason this occurs.

And if you lock your luggage, TSA will break the locks.

So, if they’re taking stuff out of luggage; might they also be capable of putting stuff into luggage?

Of course they are.

But hey, they’re government employees , so what difference does it make. They’re protected.

True Story;

Years ago I was a junior Architect on a major American Airport project.

We got a call one day after the place had been opera a few years, that a baggage handler tug driver broke a main down spout in the bowels of the structure, the OTHER side of the wall where your bags come through on the carousel for you to pick up.

We were standing there looking at the damage when baggage tugs were delivering bags to the carousel, when one cart flung off a garment bag and a box from the trailer when it went too fast around a corner.

The right Tug behind it went out of its way, veered out of the Tug lane so he could run over the items.

This all occurred right in front of us, in plain view of God and everybody, and they all laughed and Hi-Fived each other, and nothing happened to them.

And when we left, the smashed stuff was still laying there...

What they don't know is that they are being recorded on a hidden camera.

So they are not only thieves, but they are stupid, oh heck yeah just the kind of people we want working in what is now considered a high security area.

Stealing is illegal, perhaps they think that they can deserve special treatment like the illegals coming in our country.

It could be lucrative.

You carry valuables in your luggage, they WILL be stolen. Period.

If we don’t like this behavior then we need to ratchet up the punishment to the point that scum are dissuaded from theft.

Raise the bar much higher than it is now for conviction. But if convicted - execute them in 30 days after a mandatory review of the trial by three judges.

How did we morph into a society in which just about anything is OK, as long as you can get away with it? IMHO this is also reflected in voting, as a significant proportion of the voting public don’t care about a politicians ethical behavior, as long as they like their ideology or message.

We now know what that guy was doing in the hold of the aircraft when the plane took off.

They could put the cameras in plain view with a sign stating you are going to jail but noooo.... against union rules.

One day someone is going to plant a bomb on the plane.

If you are crooked enough to steal from luggage, you are also crooked enough to plant an bomb there in exchange for a wad of ISIS cash.

Good point!

I don't put anything valuable in my suitcase. So, far, no one has stolen my dirty underwear or toothbrush.

In the late 60’s and early 70’s I worked for Continental Airlines at LAX. I worked the ramp and baggage. I will say I never saw anything like that going on. If something did come out of a bag we would put it back in or if a bag opened we would close it. However I only covered one shift and I have no idea if anything like that went on on other shifts.

I am sure the luggage basher’s union is complaining loudly about this violation of their member’s privileges.
