Prosecutors Investigating Fatal Police Shooting Of Laquan McDonald

Federal officials have confirmed they are conducting a criminal investigation into the death of Laquan McDonald, 17, who died last year after being shot 16 times by Chicago Police.

McDonald, who was armed with a knife, was near West 41st Street and South Pulaski Road on the city’s southwest side, when he was shot and killed during the encounter with police.

Chicago City Council's Finance Committee also agreed yesterday to pay $5 million to Laquan McDonald's family with the full council expected to vote on the settlement tomorrow.

Chicago Corporation Counsel Stephen Patton told journalists that dashboard camera footage of the shooting prompted the city's decision to settle with the family before a lawsuit was filed.

Settlements like this are suppose to bear some resemblance to the deceased’ earning power for the estimated remainder of his or her life.

Tiger woods earning power vs a skid row bum is just one example.

This “quickie” settlement “seems” out of order. A typical black male thug has almost no earning power.

“Settlements like this are suppose to bear some resemblance to the deceased’ earning power for the estimated remainder of his or her life.”

Well, until you figure in punitive damages, which would probably be quite significant considering Chicago’s decades long history of police abuse of black suspects that the courts have already documented.

Laquan McDonald? Obviously a young man of French-Irish extraction.

Yes, 16 rounds into one guy IS a tad excessive.

I was tangentially involved with a guy who got himself shot by the police. He had rammed my car and the car of another person in a fit of road rage. I had passed his car, and he didn't like that fact. He rammed my car with his car three or four times the last time denting the driver side door while I was sitting inside my stopped car.

He turned out to be a paroled violent convict who had gone off his anti-psychotic medication according to his family. He was about six hundred miles away from his home driving a stolen car.

He led the county police on a high speed chase which ended when his car overturned on a sharp turn and rolled several times in a corn field.

When he emerged from his overturned stolen car bleeding profusely from his face, he had a knife in his hand. Four county cops were standing 20-30 feet away with their pistols pointed at him shouting at him to drop the knife. All this was recorded on the police radio.

The guy thought about it for about one minute and then decided to charge the cops. They all fired their weapons and ended the guy's time on earth.

How many bullets did the cops fire? They all fired at least three or four shots. I don't remember reading the final total, but it could have been 15-20 shots at close range.

In short, they totally ventilated the guy. As many shots as needed to put him down.

Maybe....seems like it. He was a criminal on parole from a six year sentence for a violent crime. He stole a car in Colorado and drove six hundred miles east where his life ended in a place far away from his home.

His relations said he had gone off his psychotic medicine. They didn't know where he was until after the incident. I guess he felt he didn't have anything to live for. We'll never know.
