[VIDEO] One person was killed and seven others were injured Thursday after a tornado tore through a tiny Illinois town, part of a storm system that pummeled large parts of the central U.S. and is forecast to bring severe storms to the East Coast Friday.

DeKalb County coroner Dennis Miller told reporters early Friday that a 67-year-old woman was found dead inside her home in Fairdale, an unincorporated town of about 200 residents about 80 miles northwest of Chicago. Seven others were taken to area hospitals for injuries.

"17 structures have been determined to be destroyed," Matthew Knott, division chief for the Rockford Fire Department, told The Associated Press. He added that the total could fluctuate. "All of the others have sustained damage of some sort," he said.

We live in central NC. My wife drove home in the storm, and looked liked she had gone through an artillery bombardment by the time she arrived (shell-shocked). Not only lightning but also rain of Biblical proportions. Very bad driving conditions...

We also had a man killed in a parking lot of a large outdoor mall in Cary (NC). Projections are for more of the same today. Will be hunkered down for sure...

Went through Western PA yesterday. I was lucky. No problems other than a very scared cat. But others were flooded, had fallen trees hit their homes and/or lost electricity. Still, we were relatively unscathed, compared to those areas where people were injured or lost their lives.

We need rain here in Eastern Kansas but not tornados. There was a tornado in Wichita and we’re in the direct path between Wichita and the places hit yesterday and yet, the clouds divided and most went to the north and some to the south and we got no measurable rain.

Big thunder boomers and some rain in central SC. All is quiet now.
