PEW RESEARCHER: RATE OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT MALES IN WORKFORCE 12 PERCENT HIGHER THAN U.S.-BORN MALES

WASHINGTON, DC — An illegal immigrant male residing in the United States is more likely to be gainfully employed than a male who is a legal immigrant or U.S.-born citizen, a senior demographer at the Pew Research Center think tank told lawmakers.

In 2012, the most recent year for which data is available, an estimated 91 percent of illegal immigrant males were in the workforce. This compares to 84 percent of legal immigrant men and 79 percent of U.S.-born males, Pew Research Center demographer Jeffrey Passel in written testimony prepared for a March 26 hearing held by the Senate Homeland Security & Government Affairs Committee.

Put in a different way, legal and illegal immigrant males had a better chance to be in the workforce than U.S.-born men in 2012.

Are they counting U.S. born males who are retired or who haven’t reached working age yet?

If they aren’t, than this is a worthless statistic.

That is true, though intuitively it seems likely that more employment-age Americans are on disability, unemployment, etc.

I think it is counting everyone of ‘working age’ defined as 16 years and older.

Here in SW Ohio, Ryan Homes are putting up McMansions at a rate of one per 7-8 days. All the construction crews appear to be Hispanic. Starts with pre-assembled housing units, then roofers, brick masons.

It's currently 33 degrees out at 10:30am Sunday morning and they are out working. Seven days a week, sun up to sun down.

That's the facts here. No anglo carpenters, roofers or masons. Not sure about inside work but clearly these guys work hard.

As far back as the 1970s blacks claimed any job that made them sweat was akin to slavery.

Latino’s aren’t given to trans-generational government dependency, and are accostomed to hard work. Given that, and the fact that we pay an entire race to NOT work, this finding is not the least bit surprising. Perhaps this is easer to see when one observes who’s NOT working on highway construction crews, framing houses, working the fields, doing landscaping or any other work that requires physical exertion.Personally, I believe this is the Democrat’s biggest miscalculation in history - the belief that Latinos can be converted to self-imposed slavery through addiction to government dependency.

I would like to see a guest worker program... unfortunately there are a whole host of jobs, Americans now find are beneath them. The illegal immigrants are picking up those jobs in construction, lawn and garden, road work... simple hard labor jobs are not being scooped up in many urban/suburban areas by unemployed Americans. These jobs pay much better than the average fastfood or retail job...yet they’re seen as a step down.

I also know immigrants (no idea if they were legal) from central america and Mexico, who came here years ago worked those jobs, learned the industry and now own very successful companies that provide those same services.

Let’s face reality... Americans no longer want to do certain jobs anymore, the level of welfare benefits in many urban cities covers so much, you’d be hard pressed to find a well paying job with no educational requirements that would maintain the same standard of living.

This just says that if illegal male immigrants are here, they’re here to work. They’re not attending school. They’re not retired. They’re not on welfare.
