If there are seeds inside, it’s a fruit. Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash.

If no seed inside, it’s a vegetable. Potatoe, carrot, cabbage.

I assumed he was a homosexual as soon as I heard he had been a flight attendant. I worked for an airline and I have rarely met a male flight attendant who was not gay.

“Tomato is actually a fruit and most don’t know that.”

Depends on if you are a botanist or a horticulturalist.

I have 2 friends that were Pan-AM pursers. So that was years back. Both very male with gorgeous wives and normal families. One Brazilian the other German.
The Brazilian worked his way up to the right seat before retiring weeks before PA went down the tubes.

I have flown a few times in the past few years and the men attendant all appear to be flaming queers

I’m not a botanist, I’m just a country doctor, Jim.

I was disappointed last year. Every year I raise one tomato plant in a pot on the front porch. Last year we had so much rain, the plant croaked. No tomatoes. Hope this year’s crop is better. There’s nothing like a truly vine ripened tomato.

So What...he was bullied in the cock pit!

PUNNY

I know how insensitive; you say,  but it is not my fault, I failed sensitivity training, everyone has an excuse that is mine and I'm sticking to it.

Maybe, but he was a flight attendant for a time and apparently tomato juice is popular among Germans who fly, so FAs serve a lot of it. Could be just a nickname
among German airline industry employees.

I never imagined that this discussion would be even marginally on-topic in terms of the crash, but since we're going this way in discussing the nickname:

“Tomato is actually a fruit and most don’t know that.”

Depends on if you are a botanist or a horticulturalist.

I don't trust people who tell me solemnly that a tomato is actually a fruit without knowing what, for example, lettuce or carrots botanically are.

I especially don't trust people who insist that a tomato is a fruit (because they heard something about tomatoes in third grade) while saying that other botanical fruits are still "vegetables."

(Around twenty years ago, I overheard a radio contest in which the contestants were asked to name vegetables. The one who named a tomato "lost" because a "tomato is actually a fruit." Although I didn't start overhearing until just before the end, I'm almost certain that previous entries included such things as cucumbers and peppers. I don't expect great erudition from most radio contests, but a little learning is a dangerous thing.)

Bildung kann Ihnen beibringen, dass eine Tomate eine Frucht, aber es braucht Weisheit, zu wissen, dass er nicht in einem Obstsalat gestellt.

Alas, the lack of wisdom in the world.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/expert-blog/fruit-vegetable-difference/BGP-20056141

“The following are technically fruits: avocado, beans, peapods, corn kernels, cucumbers, grains, nuts, olives peppers, pumpkin, squash, sunflower seeds and tomatoes. Vegetables include celery (stem), lettuce (leaves), cauliflower and broccoli (buds), and beets, carrots and potatoes (roots).”

That may be but I’m not putting tomatoes and avocados in my fruit salad.

I didn’t say so, only that the answer will be what the term means to the Germans who used it, not what some urban dictionary in the US says.

I don’t know the answer and neither do you.
