Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say theyve captured a fugitive monkey that bit a hospital security guard while trying to escape on Wednesday.
Officers were called to Carolinas Medical Center-University Wednesday about a monkey on the loose in the parking lot, according to the police departments Animal Care & Control unit.
The monkey a small, brown Capuchin named Carter had been cornered in a parking lot when it bit the security guard and escaped, fleeing into nearby woods.
Thursday afternoon, the monkey was spotted again.
Hospital security guards managed to corner the monkey under a car while they waited for Animal Care & Control. With the help of a relative of Carters owner, they captured the monkey.
Carter was being held in isolation at Animal Care & Control as the Mecklenburg Health Department tried to figure out a protocol for testing the monkey for rabies.
In a search warrant obtained by WBTV, the Observers news partner, investigators said Carters owner was cited in 2014 for having an exotic animal in the city limits.
The mate was overheard saying “Everybody’s got something to hide except for me and my monkey.”
Just an innocent primate.

“Good evening.”
“Hello, Officers.”
“Whatcha doing?”
“Catching monkeys.”
“What a coincidence! So are we! Get in the car.”
Time to spank the monkey.
My sister was bitten by a security guard once.

I am a musician and my monkey is a businessman. He doesn’t tell me what to play and I don’t tell him how to spend his money.
