A Louisville runner who struggled to complete a 10K race crossed the finish line hand-in-hand with her “angel” — a cop who walked by her side for a mile.

Asia Ford began having trouble breathing about five miles into Saturday’s Rodes City Run. Lt. Aubrey Gregory got out of his police cruiser to check on her.

Thanks for posting that picture. I am picture-posting challenged. I blame it on the fluoride in the water.

I personally love the 10k distance. Just when I’m done with the race, it’s over with. But of course, I keep signing up for half marathons... the day after a 10k. But hey, got my master’s gold last year, will get another this year from the US Athletics Association.

I personally love the 10k distance.

Me too. My best time was 9.4 minutes. I was driving a 1992 Ford Escort at the time. I have never actually tried to do the distance on foot.

:)

That’s after she lost 217 lbs. What a wonderfully determined woman!

that woman is in excess of 300#....a marathon for someone of that size is a fools errand and inviting severe and permanent medical problems.

The cop did the decent thing - BUT she had no business being there to begin with and the promoters opened themselves up to a huge liability in allowing it.

And total BS. If you were having trouble breathing in a race what would you do? What’s more important, a race or your life? I call BS on this one.

Your math seems to be incorrect. Per the info in the story, she weighs 258 lbs, not over 300 lbs. What she did was courageous. Was she prepared for the run? Maybe, maybe not. That’s her call, not yours. It’s her life, not yours. And the police officer did the right thing, providing human support and encouragement. Kudos to both of them. Hopefully, she’ll continue the hard task of significant weight loss and improve her overall health.

I find your post an excellent example of part of what is wrong with the world. It has become full of naysayers and mockers, but then the Bible warns us of that is to come.

When I look at that picture I see a son obeying God's commandment to honor his Mother. I see a stranger the Cop loving his 'Sister' as he loves himself.

As for me:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

I in accordence with The Word I will think on these things I learned of.

She was running a 10K, which is only about a quarter of a marathon. Even at her weight, I don't believe that's a dangerous distance. It's hard to even walk 6 miles, but if she has been exercising for a while it is doable. My hat is off to her for trying to change her life and doing what she can to get healthier.

I guess since you see none of those things I see in this story we have no common ground to discuss this.

If you have been there why would you mock it? I know many people who Doctors have told them that they would die and yet their will and faith were strong enough to get them through and they recovered, but then I doubt our views on faith and strenght of will are again two more things we do not share.

Its all about the bpm...get it too high and you are inviting issues, inefficient o2 utilization, blood sugar, blood pressure, possible LVH, clots etc.....baby steps are wise when morbidly obese
