Need Kindle Reader Help
Kindle | 3/18/15

Posted on 03/18/2015 5:41:07 AM PDT by pabianice

I downloaded Kindle Reader onto my PC. The download comes with several small books and they open and read fine. However, when I download a small book from Amazon to Kindle separately, not only does it not open, Kindle crashes.

Would appreciate troubleshooting help. Thanks.

I have seen a similar problem with Kindle on the PC.

My work-around is to close Kindle before downloading from Amazon and allow a minute or so to elapse and then re-start Kindle. That works without a crash. You may have to click on the download book icon and right mouse click for “download” and then “go to last page read.”

I found this at the Amazon site:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/saveenr/archive/2010/10/30/stopping-the-amazon-kindle-for-pc-application-from-crashing-on-windows-7.aspx

- Click Start button > All Programs > Amazon > Amazon Kindle
- Right-click the Kindle icon and choose “Troubleshoot Compatibility”
- Choose “Try Recommended Settings” and follow the subsequent instructions.

I'm not sure if this will work with your Kindle program on the PC, but it works for the Kindle reader itself. Try Calibre.

Amazon will help you and they are quick and nice. And speak English.

You didn’t say which version of the Kindle reader you downloaded. In Windows 8 there is an App version and a desktop version. The App version is very buggy.

I retired my xp 18 months ago. I did have occasional problems with the Kindle reader. I used to uninstall and re-download it. The problem is when you uninstall the program the data files are not removed. You have to search your system and delete all the Amazon Kindle folders and data to enable a clean install

Summary. I talked with Amazon. Kindle reader for PC does not work with XP. I was shown how to use http://amazon.reader.com and read in the cloud. Problem solved. Thanks all for your support.
