If Obama adhered to the law, the way Major League Baseball does, there would be no Immigration Crisis.

Sorry Charlie Hustle. You broke the Rules. There are no Participation Trophies in Baseball, nor allowances made for those who break the rules.

That’s like arguing that since we have had previous bad presidents it is ok for Obama to allow Iran to have nukes.

When society does not uphold consequences it all turns to crap. Which is what we have.

Pete Rose is in every thinking fans hall of fame.
Perhaps he should never be able to work in the MLB for what he did.

But his performance as a player was in the top ten of all time. He did not disgrace himself as a player.

Therefore he more that deserves to be in the HOF You can ban him from any future monetary connection with MLB but the HOF ‘IS’ Pete Rose.

Cool story ... I was living in the Cincy area the year he broke the record. As the season went on, it was like a betting on a lottery of buying tickets for the game he would get it. I missed by one day, and saw hit 4,193.

Did his gambling affect his stats in any way?

Nice deducin’. It’s about baseball. What’s more, it’s about people that no longer play baseball. Who cares?

Put Joe Jackson in the hall of fame, first.

Every baseball fan that is worthy of being called a baseball fan knows about Rose and will pass that on. It doesn’t matter if he will ever get in.

The reason the baseball hall is better than other halls of fame, even for all its flaws, is because they care enough about it enough to not have a rule that requires a minimum number inducted every year. That and things like not inducting Rose only add to the worth of actually getting in. Any other sport/endeavor he would have probably been in a while ago, in my opinion.

Who cares?

Well, Pete Rose for one. I don't care if he gets in, just as long as he fulfills his side of the agreement first.

No.

Did he know what Rule 21(d) meant? Did he break one of baseballs most sacred rules, Rule 21(d)? Did he know what the consequences were if he broke rule 21 (d)? Did he lie about breaking rule 21(d)? How long did he lie about breaking rule 21(d)?

He will have to come clean which he should have done originally and he would likely already be forgiven.

How about admit the guy to the Hall for his legit accomplishments, but continue to ban him from earning money related to baseball employment? Seems equitable , since his playing career easily earned the spot, whereas his post-player days behavior similarly earned him an employment ban.

FYI, I don’t like the SOB and never have, but his numbers are the stuff of legend. If they let the steroid aholes in, why not Rose?

I bet on a dog race once in Vegas at the MGM and Pete was doing his radio show from the sports book.

He had a bet on the same race and we stood next to each other and cheered our dogs on.

The guy likes to bet, and kept betting after his expulsion.

I think the new commissioner has the right approach:

"I want to make sure I understand all of the details of the Dowd Report and Commissioner [Bart] Giamatti's decision and the agreement that was ultimately reached," Manfred said after a meeting with Los Angeles Dodgers players in Arizona on Monday morning. "I want to hear what Pete has to say, and I'll make a decision once I've done that."

Hey, OJ’s in the Hall of Fame, right?

For the record I cannot agree that Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Unlike murder, criminal vs. baseball, the gambling rule IS all about MLB. Rose knew the rule and the consequences.

We met Bob Feller several times and he would tell you that there are a lot of rules in baseball, but only a handful that are posted in every clubhouse in MLB and gambling is one of them.

No matter what records Rose holds, he will not be let into the Hall.
He did the one thing you cannot do in baseball. It is the cardinal rule after the Black Sox incident.
You cannot bet on games as a player or coach, ESPECIALLY betting on your own team.
