Suggestions for a compact pick-up truck, please. (vanity)

I've got a 2007 Tundra that I wouldn't part with, but this article has changed my thinking on what is desirable in the world of pickup trucks. By all means get a new, or newer, compact truck (I'll second the Tacoma). It's hard to get by nowadays without a good new truck, if you put a lot of miles on your vehicles. But I'd love to own one of those older diesels, too, if I could find a good one that fits my budget.

Stay away from Nissan.Their vehicles are poorly enginered and as a result you’ll be paying through the nose as they don’t honor their warrenties.

I had issues with the fuel level sensor and the only way to replace it is to change the entire gas tank.I looked on line at NITSA to see if the thing was covered in a recall.It was.I brought the info to the dealer and they still refused to honor the warranty.

That issue occurred twice and they still never changed the design of the fuel tank to prevent water from corroding the fuel tank sensor.

Nissan designs its vehicles to fail.So they can keep them.

I have a 2006 model.... I love the thing...6 banger a little tough on the mpg side but not bad if you are not a lead foot....

It’s big enough to handle most jobs and the 5’ box works fine on almost anything but hauling around 4 x 8 board...

There is anything out there that I see. I was looking for a Ford Ranger too after trading in my Chevy S10 and discovered that they aren’t making it anymore. I ended up going bigger and getting a Silverado. However, there is good news on the horizon. I hear that Jeep is coming out with a pickup in about a year.

For 25 years I had a service business and ALWAYS bought Ford Rangers.
Good mileage, little repairs needed, and fair price.
I would drive them for 225,000 miles then trade em in and get a new one.
I ALWAYS paid extra and got their V-6 motor as it gave much better pick up when entering freeways.

My understanding of the Ford Ranger is that it is actually a re-branded Mitsubishi L200. I drove one of those in the SWA and it was flawless. It had 4x4 plus inter-axle lock. It could go through mud and wadis practically like a tank. With the US Ford Ranger I couldn’t get all the options to match what I drove overseas so I never bought it.

I would probably go with a Toyota Tacoma but there is a high premium for these pickups in the US market.

If Fiat is offering a re-branded L200 I would say that would be the one to get. A maxed-out L200 supercab is an awesome little truck!

I miss my old El Camino Royal Knight. I would go with the Toyota Tacoma any day of the week and twice on sunday.

The reason Ford got rid of the Ranger in the US has to do with CAFE standards Obola imposed in 2010. The Ranger was no more fuel efficient than an F-150.

The only small PU I would even consider until the Ranger returns to the US is a Tacoma.

There really aren’t any compact pickups anymore. If you look at the Chevy and the Toyota and the Nissan then they’re all the same size as the F150

A good used Ranger is worth the money. Just stay away front he 3.0 v6. the L4 and 4.0 are good.

They're compact and have low maintenance costs, to be sure, but they're a bit lacking in cargo capacity.

I don't think you can get one without a crew cab anymore, too. If you're looking for a small pickup then I assume you don't want that.

If you have the money the Toyota Tacoma is the absolute best of that class. Nissan still makes a small pickup, I think.

Also Government Motors has a new generation of small pickups (GM and Chevy, I think) but most of us around here have a problem there.

That said, I have a 2013 F150. It does everything I ask it to do and more. Gets decent gas mileage even though it's 4wd. Has the 5.0 V8 which is the same as the old 302, but... not your dad's small V8. Six speed auto, limited slip differential. It runs, and it pulls.

For personal use I wouldn't trade it for anything except a Tacoma, which would park easier but would cost more to buy.

Toyota makes a small 2 door compact truck the size of the Ranger.

You are going to have to get dealer to order it for you. Comes with everything manual; windows, door locks, etc.

You can get a slightly used Ranger.
Trading mine in (195K and needing front-end work and brakes) for same truck with 85K.
Like you, I don't have use for a full-size truck, (why drag all of that extra steel around if you don't have to?) but do need a six-foot bed for lumber, gardening, and furniture transport.
I've heard the: "real men drive full-sized trucks" rant - so, anything less than a ten-wheel dump truck is....?

I’m driving and old (2001) GMC Sonoma and I’ve always loved how the interior “feels” like a full-size cab. I used to drive a Ranger and felt cramped.

Beyond that, I’ve had few mechanical problems with the old girl. Everybody in the family borrows my old “farm truck” for moving stuff, with no trouble.

Nissan or Toyota may have smaller trucks with good reps to fit your needs.
