The Redskins and Marcus Mariota: Realistic, or gamesmanship?
Washington Post ^ | March 11, 2015 | Mike Jones

The scenario has been floated before, but when someone like ESPN’s John Clayton predicts that the Washington Redskins will select Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota with the fifth overall pick of next month’s NFL draft, ears perk up.

And so, that’s what happened late Tuesday night and early Wednesday, after Clayton said just that during a radio interview on the first day of the league year, when the league was whipped into a frenzy by trades and big-money free agent signings.

I was listening to ESPN Radio when John Clayton made the statement about the Deadskins would draft Mariota if he fell to 5. If they do that will mean the 'Skins have used 4 first round picks and a 2nd to draft QBs in the past four seasons.

It’s clear Jay Gruden doesn’t have a lot of hope for RGIII. I’d like to see Griffin make it, but Gruden is pretty good with QBs, and his brother I am sure has weighed in privately. RGIII may need to be humbled and a fresh start in a different system. I’d like to see him succeed. Seems like a standup guy.

Didn’t some news outlet announce that they were henceforth never going to use the word “Redskins” in connection with the NFL team that’s based in Washington DC?

Whatever happened to that?

I take great joy in anyone sticking it to Chimp Kelly.

Seems the Redskins are snakebit when it comes to QBs. Who was the last consistent Skins QB who played at a high level for more than a season or two? Theisman?

I think RGIII may have lost some speed with his knee injury. The average player in the NFL lasts for 3 years...RGIII may be in that group.

They should save their picks. I’ll bet they could get Ryan Lindley for a song.

yes...I suspect you are right. He’s going to have to change his game, or he’ll be right there in that 3-4 year gap. I would guess he may survive for awhile as a backup, with hopes that he regains his mojo later on. We shall see.
