Perimeter = Length plus width x 2.

Judy has it correct here and all the others that said there is more than one answer.

The teacher must have graduated from publik school.

If the area is a circle the perimeter is 2πR, if it's an oval I need to get out a book.

The way I see it: 5j – (j – 2k) +36 +5k ݎ ଶ ൌ0ݎ3

Kudos for remembering to include the ൌ factor. Many mathematicians overlook it. In fact, if I recall correctly, the lack of that value in their calculations is what brought the East German space program to a halt.

It’s B but only if the blanket is 3 units by 4 units. Otherwise, there’s no way to tell. A blanket 1 unit wide by 12 units long will have a border of 26 units but still has an area of 12 square units.

Yeah, they always leave that statement out. Fortunately I found it carved into a pillar at Thebes ...

How big is the border supposed to be? Is it 1 inch or 1 foot? I don’t know how to sew.

The only possible answer is B, none of the other answers could possibly be correct.

1. Is this Common Core?
2. If answer to #1 is yes, the answer to the question is patriarchy.

Perhaps the questioner might tell us how many units wide the "border" is to be. Neither is the information given that tells the student whether the finished or the unfinished blanket is to be 12 square units. IOW, is the border within the blanket or added to its perimeter?

This is a very poorly worded question, doubtless dreamed up by a Teacher's College Education Major, rather than some sort of technical person.

BTW, 2x6 and 1x12 would be the same
Wrong. One presumes a "square unit" has 4 sides, so by your reasoning: (2)1 + (2)12 = 26

This also might be an internet hoax, an update of the old joke: "Farmer Brown has planted 14 acres of potatoes. Farmer Jones has 200 acres of winter wheat. What color is Farmer Smith's wife's dress?"

BTW, where is the question en español? In Ebonics? Is Cursive allowed in the answer? May one use a calculator? The question is also racist and highlights the Bush-caused situation in Ferguson where the baby daddy done been shot by the po-po and baby ain't got no blanket.

The question is poorly worded! I just discussed this with my wife who is a quilter. In quilting there is a difference between border and binding(DAMHIKT). On a quilt 3 units by 4 units, a binding would be 14 units whereas a border would require 18 units or blocks. The binding just goes around the outside edge: 4+3+4+3=14 (the perimiter) whereas a border uses those 14 plua 4 additional units since you have to fill in the corner spaces.

Obviously, whoever wrote the question is not a quilter. To bad the concepts of perimeter, circumfrence, etc are foreign to the present educational system!

Blanket 3x4 needs 14 untis of border.
Blanket 2x6 needs 16 units of border.
Blanket 1x12 needs 26 units of border.

There is not enough information to know which it is.

Not enough information.

This is not a geometry question. It is union made.
