Federal health insurance aid in doubt for nearly 8M

Nearly 8 million people could lose up to $24 billion a year in health insurance subsidies in a Supreme Court case threatening President Barack Obama’s law, according to a government report released Tuesday.

The estimates by The Associated Press show what’s at stake in the case. Health overhaul opponents argue that subsidies are illegal in some three dozen states where the federal government took charge of running the health insurance marketplaces, or exchanges. The justices heard arguments last week, and the court’s decision is expected in late June.

Tuesday’s report from the Department of Health and Human Services shows that about 7.7 million people in the 37 states with federally-run markets are getting an average of $263 a month to help pay premiums. That works out to around $2 billion a month, although it may drop over the year as the number of people insured fluctuates. …

Federal Health Insurance Aid In Doubt For Nearly 8M

What happened to the term "ObamaCare?"

Oh yeah. Nutzi Pelosi told them not to say that.

90% were on Medicaid already. This is just a new way to grab extra bucks directly to the Feds. The Feds got a percentage on EVERY new policy that was written.

That’s $2 billion a month of taxpayer money being illegally spent.

The Associated Press trying to add to the pressure on the Supreme Court (Kennedy & Roberts in particular) to “protect those on Obamacare” regardless of whether those subsidies are in accordance with the law. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Which is why it MAY be possible that the Dems aren't the ones holding incriminating 'insurance' on John Roberts. Not likely...but possible.

No politician ever met a tax he didn't like.

When it comes to obamacare and some other obama issues...SCOTUS is the Kings Court!

I would be surprised and delighted if the SCOTUS makes a liar of me on this one.

For 2014 you would be correct. There has been a bit of a surge in signups for 2015. Total signups are estimated to be near 12M total, so that is why they spit out the 8M figure..

Even at 12 million sign ups, 8 million lost subsidies is still too high. #1, not all Obamacare purchasers get a subsidy, and #2 there still will be a number of states with state exchanges.

“Nearly 8 million people could lose up to $24 billion a year in health insurance subsidies in a Supreme Court “

How about some real truth for a change.

300 million people are forced to give away 7.20 trillion per year of hard work, into the body trafficking extortion racket. No matter what the result of this hyped deflection story.

The only reason to signup via exchanges is to seek a subsidy. There a couple of states that force everybody seeking private insurance to go through their exchanges. Approximately 3M people have signed up for insurance via state exchanges from what I read. So that leaves ~ 9M people that get insurance through federal exchanges. Assuming 88% get subsidies per press accounts, that comes out to about 8M that could lose subsidies. Close enough for government bean counters...
