It was a joke call - Rush wants folks to call in with phony stories on Fridays to make fun of Brian Williams.

Actually the Navy flies C-130s in support roles and a commander very well could have been making this flight (our Captain (Navy Captain, O-6) C.O. flew "his" P-3 (#1) once in a while, usually when going home from deployment).

A split-s from pattern altitude (or from any altitude) in a C-130 is what nailed the guy as a story-teller.

You do realize “Open Line Friday” is today....

Since the Williams incident, Rush has encouraged callers to do a “Brian Williams”....tell a whopper and sell it good.

It was probably a sarcastic/ farce “Open Line Friday” call.....I am fairly familiar with C-130s since my Dad flew them in Vietnam and I used to fall out the back end of them at low altitudes during the course of my own military career. If the wheels of a C-130 got driven up into the fuselage and the propellers worn down to nubs, it would have flattened the fuselage and the wings would have broken off. (The wings sit on top of the fuselage and the wheel wells are in the bottom of the fuselage). As survivable and as tough as the plane is, I seriously doubt anyone would survive such an accident in a C-130.

My great grandfather used to tell me stories of how Brian Williams courageously sailed on the battleship HMS Mauretania and how he’d bravely reported on the Crimean War. Even though they faced stiff opposition from the Armenian Navy they managed to lay siege to the Crimean fortress of Eben Emael. Williams volunteered to go with the Marine Corps Rangers when they went ashore.

Truly, it was inspiring to hear such an amazing story about such a brave, brave journalist.

Please note; No C-130’s were abused or mistreated in an inappropriate manner (Split-S or Hard Landing) during the aforementioned satire.
