'Leanwashing' marketing tactic used to drive junk-food sales
CBC News ^ | March 4, 2015 | Bruce Chambers

An international team of university researchers, including from Simon Fraser in Vancouver, coined the term leanwashing last year. It was in response to a trend in advertising that links eating junk food with increasing physical activity.

In 2010, Michelle Obama launched a campaign called Let’s Move to end childhood obesity.

Originally, there was a lot of talk about reducing junk food and eating healthier. But apparently the U.S. food industry objected to such criticism coming from its government and reportedly engaged in lobbying that resulted in Let’s Move becoming mostly about moving.

You know everything with the Chicago Mob is about money above all else.

I’m sure there’s many explanations for Mooch’s lunch/exercise deal to be found if we had any serious investigative reporters.

No. The Wookie launched "Let's Move" to stick her fat butt into our personal lives.

Subway climbed onto Michelle's bandwagon. And I immediately ceased all personal and organization business with them.

On January 23, 2014 Subway publicly joined “The Partnership for America”, a feel good organization dedicated to meddling with children's food. Michelle is its Honorary Chairman. That organization is the public sector facet of the White House's “Let's Move” organization, created without legitimacy to allow Michelle Obama to use the apparatus of the Executive Branch to meddle in children's food.

Subway thought it had quite a publicity coup of moral high ground when it joined this group of meddlers. Michelle Obama did some hokey appearances and Subway sent out a press release trumpeting its moral superiority. It can be found here; http://www.subway.com/subwayroot/about_us/PR_Docs/PHA.pdf

Unfortunately for Subway, real people were outraged and hammered the company on its social media sites. Subway immediately retrenched stating for those who e-mailed them; “We are not promoting or aligning with any politician as part of this healthier eating initiative. We are teaming up with a non-partisan, not for profit organization that promotes building awareness to help fight childhood obesity. This is not about politics.” And it buried but did not cease its involvement with “The Partnership for America”.

Subway bought into Michelle Obama’s liberal fantasy (and our nightmare). Its customers punished the company for its hubris. So now it is laying low. And you will not see any blatant Wookie displays. But the involvement remains.

That is why Subway will never get one more penny out of my pocketbook.

Indeed. The rot is spreading rapidly.

Your call on whether to shop at Subway and other places doing similar nonsense. I finally had enough and just refuse to support these idiots.

Plus I always call them to account by e-mailing my displeasure directly to them and by commenting on their social media sites. Seems they respond to negative publicity more than anything else, even loss of sales.
