For the folks who have never been around one much, these working breed dogs are a different animal. I think all the years of close relationships with humans, as a partner/companion, not as a pet evolves them into something different. They are often extreme in their protectiveness, their bonding, actually they tend to be at the extremes,period. The dog even has the look that he knows something is up, dogs are very tuned to attitudes and body language, if I get home in a bad mood, my wife can walk in the door, look at the dog, and ask if she did something wrong, as the dog will pick up on it and act differently, almost as if she has been punished. Losing one of these is a tough deal, all you can do is get another one.
