Pictured: Cab driver who had his license suspended nine times before he crashed and killed Bob Simon

The cab driver in the crash which killed veteran CBS correspondent Bob Simon had his license suspended at least half a dozen times prior to the fatal accident, according to police sources.

Reshad Abdul Fedahi, from Queens, New York, also had two previous traffic convictions, NBC reported. The license suspensions had been cleared up, authorities also said, and Mr Fedahi, 44, was driving on a probationary license.

Daily Mail Online was awaiting a comment from the Taxi and Limousine Commission on the driver's previous suspensions but the agency earlier confirmed that Fedahi’s probationary license had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

Holding a probationary license means that the driver has been behind the wheel for less than a year.

A preliminary investigation into the crash which killed the 73-year-old veteran reporter also suggested that a combination of speed, an inexperienced driver and the fact the reporter wasn't wearing a seatbelt could be responsible, according to police sources.

Cab driver? I thought Mr. Simon was in a Town Car. That’s not a taxi.

Reshad Abdul Fedahi,

Guys from Queens should not be allowed to emigrate to Manhattan.

It’s a car for hire.

It doesn’t sound like he was “inexperienced”!

I remember a column by some conservative comic back in the 1980's (it may have been PJ O'Rourke) that talked about the cab drivers in some big city, NYC or Chicago. It contained a line that went something like this: "the buildup of all the bodies under the front of the cab causes there to be a two or three second delay between the moment the driver turns the steering wheel and the moment the front wheels actually turn in response; the driver compensates for this delay by driving faster."

I will never take a cab. All of the cab drivers I see are Muslim camel drivers. Take a bus instead.

I was inside a NYC taxi, late at night, about a decade ago.
Feeling like we were really zooming I peered at the speedometer.
We were doing over 60 mph! I naturally told the driver to slow the vehicle. That was just nuts.

What, you think the NYC bus drivers all look like Ralph Kramden?

I work in Manhattan a lot and have learned to take the subway, commuter trains and ferries. The cabs are awful. Just like you describe, mostly Muslim people with unpronounceable names (usually starting with Muhammed or Rashid) and rude and obnoxious.

I was in NYC a number of years ago. Cab driver said “no Inglis.” I assumed that meant he couldn’t speak English. At one point another cab driver cut him off. My driver spewed some really nasty, yet perfectly understandable English phrases at the other driver. I suppose he couldn’t converse normally in English, but he could curse in English.
