Sounds like a bribe. Let the Bucks owners pay for their own blinking arena.

Word is he won’t change his mind.

“No dice, said Mike Huebsch, Walker’s administration secretary. He said the governor will not reverse his decision to kill the Menominee casino.”

Buck’s owner said that they are ready to dig this fall. Sounds like he’s known longer than we have what Walker was going to decide.

“We’ve been in lock-step with state, county and city officials to build toward a very accelerated schedule to get a shovel in the ground this fall,”

Repubs in Madison are not fans of Walker’s plan. Sen. Van Wanggaard said that he would have a hard time getting behind Walker’s budget plan as he now sees a way for it to be built without using taxpayer money.

The Tribe believed in the “Golden Rule” = Them with the Gold rules.

In this case it was “no dice”!

I think Governor Walker should have approved the casino. If he wasn’t going to, he shouldn’t have dragged on for as long as he did. It didn’t sound like the Potowatami would have had a strong case. Bureau of Indian Affairs already agreed it should go ahead and the Doyle compact was flawed. Other Wisconsin tribes had no problem and the Oneida tribe was going to help with the banking. A Hard Rock Casino located in struggling Southeast Wisconsin, right over the Illinois border would have been much appreciated by the folks of Racine and Kenosha county. Paul Ryan backed it 100%. Hard Rock had promised the state one Billion dollars over 25 years plus to pay the state any lost revenue from the other tribes. Instead the richest tribe has a monopoly on Southeast Wisconsin and the poorest tribe suffers.

What did the Indians do for a living before they had casinos?

There’s a saturation point with gambling as a revenue source. Atlantic city casinos going broke stands out. Plus if it fails the direction the politicians will direct is to remove local competition chiefly local taverns throughout the state.

Locally I’m wittnessing small businesses known as taverns where they once were reliable revenue sources for local handicraters and specialty outlets to sell their goods and wares now rely on their poker machines because of not only smoking .But have turned cops into revenue agents because of the .08 political social engineering which enriched the lawyers and feed the county coffers. Now patrons are afraid to go out at dusk let alone socialize into the late evening.

BTW I’m conviced that stats will prove where DUI accidents and fatalities are involved alcohol levels are much much higher than a .08 level.

Be that as it be most of the criticism of the offer to support the ptojected basketball arena was insincere and came late in the game.

Plus what the city of Milwaukee will offer. While the “Bucks” (male deer) do offer a measure of income activity to the city . It seems the mayor and some highly localized businesses affected by a light rail street car which would run into tons of $$$$$$$$$$$ to construct instead of a battery operated system would divert those funds which would assist in its construction.
