Infant suffocates from plastic bag placed over mayonnaise-covered head during home lice remedy

SPRINGFIELD — Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old infant on Cass Street who suffocated over the weekend as her family administered a home remedy for head lice.

Springfield Police spokesman John Delaney said no charges have been filed, but the matter is being investigating by Springfield police detectives. The name of the child was not disclosed to the press.

I don’t know if the remedy is effective but the death is the result of leaving the child unattended.

It just goes to show you that any pair of people with the right body parts can have a baby, but that doesn’t mean they are smart enough to raise it.

Prayers for this little one. I suspect had she survived this, her life wouldn't have been a bed of roses. Children are a precious gift from G-d yet so many are treated as the byproduct of a sexual act.

They could have just washed her head with dog/cat flea shampoo. I have heard that is very effective against lice.

Safer than a plastic bag.

The mayo would suffocate the lice. The bag was probably to protect the pillow/case.

Springfield has a number of low-income, immigrant citizens. It is mostly Democrat or unaffiliated.

According to the 2010 Census, Springfield had a population of 153,060, of which 72,573 (47.4%) were male and 80,487 (52.6%) were female.
