Girl, 17, sexually assaulted after being put in back of police car with male sex offender

After being picked up for being drunk, the 17-year-old was put in the back of a car by rookie officer Danielle Gallant, alongside a convicted sex offender.

She was unable to defend herself as she was attacked by Joe Kritik, 24, who already had four convictions for sexual assault and was listed on a sex offenders register.

He was under arrest for causing a disturbance in the town of Tasiujaq in the far north of Quebec but was not handcuffed and the police car door was locked.

A lawsuit against Ms Gallant, the Kativik Regional Police Force and the Kativik Regional Government is seeking $400,000 (£208,500) in damages for the victim, who cannot be identified.

According to court documents: ‘When Constable Gallant came back to her vehicle after a short period of time, she observed Mr Kritik with his pants down while on top of the plaintiff.

Based on the description of the place where this occurred, I’d guess there were no Mounties involved. This incident most likely took place on a native reserve, which means it probably has a tribal police department.
