A man was acting in self-defense when he shot a 24-year-old in the chest following a fight outside a Frenchmen Street nightclub Friday morning (Jan. 30), police said.
The shooting occurred in the 500 block of Esplanade Avenue about 1:15 a.m., according to records. A 64-year-old man told detectives he was leaving a club in the 1400 block of Decatur Street when he was approached by a woman who complimented him on how he was dressed.

Walking the streets of New Orleans ANYTIME is dangerous, at night its suicidal. If every victim of crime wore an ‘I Am an Isolated Incident’ button, you’d see them everywhere.STAY OUT if you value your property and life!
Maybe he will learn to control his temper.
Correct! When in New Orleans I am armed anywhere it is legal. Where it is not legal, I do not go.
about 3 years ago I walked down canal street from Harrah’s Casino to Walgreens, about a mile or so.
I was harrassed by black youths (lol, definitely 20-30 year olds) on skateboards, including two attempts to try and knock me down. That was just the first block from the Casino. The next block I was propositioned, and the block after that seemed to be the drug dealing block.
If I ran New Orleans I would make all the uniformed police rotate ‘walking a beat - in pairs’ 24/7 - 365 up and down Canal and La Salle and whatever other streets tourists frequent.
