I believe that the rifle was of caliber ".338 Lapua Magnum". One possible load is a 300gr Sierra MatchKing at 2700 ft/sec. Haven't seen the movie yet.
That's laying some serious energy downrange, though.

I had no problem watching that scene. By taking out the boy a future terrorist was eliminated and the woman was an enemy combatant. Yes war is hell! Kyle’s job was to protect the Marines - he did his job and he did it well.
