There are two possibilities:
1. The details of the report are toxic to the regime, and this is damage control (very possible);
2. The talking head “defence officials” were talking out their asses about things they don’t know about (a winner every time).
If the report had cleared Bergdahl this administration would have had it published in the NYT five minutes after receiving it from the military.
I'll go with #1.
I believe the report of the actual investigation run by Maj. Gen. Dahl shows Bergdahl to be a deserter however it's not up to MG Dahl to charge Bergdahl, it's up to Gen. Milley to make that decision.
Gen. Milley either hasn't made the decision due to foot dragging because of pressure from above or he's decided not to charge Dahl.
I suspect the dude is clinically and obviously nuts and no one wants to deal with the situation when his lawyers inevitably present an insanity defense. Has he been seen in public? My guess is that he’s a gibbering mess.
