Dow futures off nearly 300 points after data miss

U.S. stock index futures furthered already steep declines after data had orders for U.S. durable goods unexpectedly falling in December, adding to a bearish view as corporate earnings disappointed.

Earnings season is poised to gather steam this week, with some of Wall Street's biggest names lined up to report. Apple releases its earnings after the close on Tuesday, with analysts expecting the tech firm to beat consensus.

Poor weather conditions have brought New York and other areas in the north-east to a standstill, however extreme forecasts have been downgraded, with some meteorologists predicting less snowfall than initially expected.

The travel ban on all non-emergency vehicles, enforced in New York City and surrounding counties on Monday night, was lifted early on Tuesday.

Also due for release will be the Conference Board's consumer confidence index for January at 10:00 am ET, which is expected to record its sixth consecutive monthly rise to a new post-crisis high.

New home sales data for December at 10:00 am ET and the Richmond Fed's manufacturing index for January is also scheduled for Tuesday.

Great. This must be the blizzard they were talking about yesterday...

One wonders whether or not one of the reasons we are seeing this volatility is because the democrats lost the House and Senate and their operatives are finding it more difficult to cook the economic numbers and control the spin.

It’s funny to read everything from the MSM through the prism of propaganda. It really is hard to believe anything coming out of the media anymore.

Stocks are basically worthless. OZero showed with the auto, bank and health care takeovers that there is no private property that cannot be seized at will by the government.

Take a drink for “Unexpectedly”

I bet they are happy about the Northeast storm.
“And in other news the first quarter negative GDP can be attributed to the weather.”

The commie NY mayor helped out by shutting down the city for 4 inches of snow.

Republicans and Democrats are responsible for the greatest transfer of wealth in world history from America/American families to foreign countries, specifically China/India.

Republicans and Democrats are responsible for the greatest period of fiscal mismanagement ever in the history of the United States.

Both parties are responsible for the erosion of the middle class, collapsing of our national borders, greatest increase in the size and scope of the feral gubbamint through regulation/law.

Through provisions incorporated into the patriot act and NDAA, we've witnessed over the last decade an explosion in gubbamint surveillance in all areas from credit card purchases to phone records to internet traffic upon it's citizens from multiple agencies.

Oppressive tactics particularly by the executive branch intended to intimidate and strike fear into citizens by use of the IRS, EPA, BATF and all other regulatory entities.

The routine use of propaganda in a supposedly free society to deceive the citizens of the U.S.. Economic statistics, geopolitical events, domestic programs are all skewed to give citizens false impressions for political gain and or power/control.

Equipping local law enforcement with military style equipment, weaponry, various surveillance techniques/equip. as a work around and in direct violation of the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 which prohibits the federals from using the military to enforce laws of the states.

This all used to be tin foil hat tawk....not any longer. We owe those who sounded the trumpet of impending tyranny an apology.

If we were in the back seat of daddy's car, heading to a city called TYRANNY....I'm askin, “are we there yet?”

Rule 48 was invoked to restrict trading prior to the opening, Dow still went down 300 points in the first 10 minutes of trading.

Happy Days!
