In a breathless, Drudge Report-linked headline, the Washington Post reported last week that the “Majority of U.S. public school students are in poverty.”
A Huffington Post piece by Rebecca Klein, published 12 minutes earlier, sported a similar headline, “More Than Half Of American Schoolchildren Now Live In Poverty.”
The only problem with these headlines, and the stories beneath them, is that they aren’t true—not even close. Both pieces were triggered by a report from the Southern Education Foundation.
In 2013, some 19.9 percent of children in America were in families with income at the poverty line or below—in 2014, the income threshold was $23,850 for a family of four. (Among the native-born of all ages, the poverty rate was 13.9 percent while among non-citizens, the rate was 22.8 percent while naturalized residents had a poverty rate of 12.7 percent.)
But, a few extra percent is needed to get to 51 percent in “poverty.”
That milestone was achieved by new rules for the school lunch program. The Department of Agriculture, the federal agency that administers the school lunch program, recently changed eligibility rules to reduce the paperwork required to enroll children in the program by allowing all children in a school with a majority of low-income students to qualify for the program.
The punch line in both stories is that, per the interviewed experts, now that a crisis has been identified, we must do something about it.
The WaPo story concludes with another quote from Rebell calling for the federal government to cease its focus on results in public schools and rather, focus on needs, “We have to meet their health needs, their mental health needs, after-school programs, summer programs, parent engagement, early-childhood services. These are the so-called wraparound services. Some people think of them as add-ons. They’re not. They’re imperative.”

And, given the amount of money we give to the government to ‘help people’, How is this even possible?
Mr. Obama invited many Hispanic yutes to America who came here without a dime in their pockets. They certainly couldn’t have helped our poverty rates.
Methodology: We randomly surveyed 100 school children between the ages of 6 and 11, and asked them how much money they had on them. None had more than $1.75. Hence the extreme poverty rate.
With Common Core more than half live in intellectual poverty.

So school is no longer about education, but taking care of the needs that parents should be supplying.
Imagine if we had real Third World type Poverty here. Geez.
Poverty is having a CRT TV rather than a Flat Screen TV.
Poverty is having only Basic Cable with no HBO.
Poverty is having a Flip Phone instead of an iPhone 6.
Poverty is having a Car without Bluetooth and Navigation.
The list goes on for the perpetually aggrieved.
Wonder if they posted a correction? If not, then clearly they are not interested in facts.
School is all about indoctrination. If they stay longer for dinner then there are more hours available to indoctrinate with propaganda and, by the way, proseletyze for various, um, genders.
When I saw the headline, I knew it as a joke.

Federal immigration officials on Thursday sought to show the softer side of immigrant detention, complete with cartoon wall murals, stuffed animals, playgrounds, snacks and a hair salon at a South Texas facility that will house women and their children who crossed the border illegally.
Once they enter under the welcome sign — in English and Spanish — immigrants will be processed through showers and health screenings and allowed to select clothes for themselves and their children. Mothers also can request diapers, baby bottles, pacifiers and blankets.
Further inside they will have access to a dental care, a bilingual library, playrooms, child care, pay phones, flat-screen TVs, free internet access, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, weightlifting equipment, a small soccer field and a soon-to-be installed playground play scape.

Well of course children are in poverty. We have child labor laws that prevent them from getting a job and earning money!
And since getting a good education is a primary factor in getting out of poverty, and since gov’t schools do not think that educating children is important, soon we will have 100% children in poverty.
Politicians just redefine anything. Besides, it’s Bush’s fault.
