Sorry, George Jones, no one has filled their shoes.

I blame Garth Brooks for wussifying country music.

I blame Garth Brooks...

I don't know who you are other than recognizing you like one commuter recognizes another by his vehicle traveling everyday on the same stretch of road. However, you just became my favorite person of the day.

There was a Scorpion episode about this same idea.

All music has gone down the tubes—it was extremely apparent watching the ball drop New Years eve. I don’t recall any good music and some of it we even muted.

That it is despite a few who are trying to take it in other directions.

Take any genre of popular music and you will have the same result. To non fans it all sounds the same. To people that don’t like traditional country music, Jones, Twitty, Haggard, etc., all sound alike. It is worse today because there becomes a formula that sells and then it becomes homogenized and reproduced until it doesn’t sell anymore. Something new comes along and it happens all over again. This video is cute, but not surprising. It is certainly not unique to modern country music.

Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in the pick-up truck
She got runned over by a damned old train

This is a riot.

Well, we have corporate rock, pop, rap and country now.

KAW-LIGA, was a wooden Indian standing by the door
He fell in love with an Indian maid over in the antique store
KAW-LIGA - A, just stood there and never let it show
So she could never answer “YES” or “NO”.

He always wore his Sunday feathers and held a tomahawk
The maiden wore her beads and braids and hoped someday he’d talk
KAW-LIGA - A, too stubborn to ever show a sign
Because his heart was made of knotty pine.

Poor ol’ KAW-LIGA, he never got a kiss
Poor ol’ KAW-LIGA, he don’t know what he missed
Is it any wonder that his face is red
KAW-LIGA, that poor ol’ wooden head.

KAW-LIGA, was a lonely Indian never went nowhere
His heart was set on the Indian maiden with the coal black hair
KAW-LIGA - A, just stood there and never let it show
So she could never answer “YES” or “NO”.

Then one day a wealthy customer bought the Indian maid
And took her, oh, so far away, but ol’ KAW-LIGA stayed
KAW-LIGA - A, just stands there as lonely as can be
And wishes he was still an old pine tree.

There ain’t no country music no more.

Sure there is. You just have to look for it...like you didn't used to have to.

Try some Dierks Bentley, Trace Adkins, Dwight Yokam for starters. Then there's Travis Tritt. Oh yeah...Travis. I saw him live and man oh man...what a show.

Now, these guys don't quite measure up to George Jones, Patsy Cline and many others but they are light years ahead of what is on the radio today.

What is played on the radio is not representative of the good stuff that is being recorded today. Radio plays tunes that are directed towards a specific demographic...and we ain't it.
