Remember it well, too. Kennedy had a sappy story about the poor, lonely Asian scientist at JPL, aching for his family to be allowed to come here.

Arabs weren’t even mentioned. Met the first of them in college in the early 1970s, mostly Saudis...who said they were going home. Not.
The 65 Act was the key to ripping apart the American social fabric. Like the later amnesties, they knew the numbers were lies.
But the Kenndys simply wanted revenge on the WASP establishment by drowning it.
9/11 was a direct result. Hope they’re all happy.
