The son of a millionaire Manhattan hedge fund founder allegedly gunned down his dad because his allowance was cut to $400 from $600 a month a $200 difference a law enforcement source told the New York Post.
Thomas Gilbert Sr. was shot in the head at his Beekman Place residence on the East Side on Sunday, police said. Officers responded to the home after reports of shots fired, and found Gilbert in the bedroom, with a handgun near his body.
Gilbert's son, Thomas, was being questioned by police but no charges have been filed, police said.
The New York Post reported, citing law enforcement sources, that Gilbert, 70, was shot in the head by Thomas during an argument in the elder Gilbert's bedroom. The son fled on foot after the shooting, prompting a rare police manhunt on Beekman Place, a tony East Side enclave located just north of the United Nations.

Spoiled rich, 30 year old brat.
Look for the "affluenza" plea.
Rat gibzmedat.
Some folks don’t know how to quit while they’re ahead.
To paraphrase jojo biden “One word. Universal Background Checks.”
What, 600 a month in New York, and then cut to 400? Not much of an allowance, especially for a 30-year-old.
A 30yo can support himself.
A 30 year old getting free rent money and an allowance. Dad was not a good dad, God rest his soul.
The young Mr. Gilbert will soon learn that $200 will only pay his lawyer for around five minutes of work.
i know! and only $2,400 a month for rent in New York... his daddy was forcing him to live in the ghetto...
A 30 year old with an allowance? Huh?
What a worthless, spoiled, entitled, murdering brat. The guy’s 30 years old, has a degree in Economics from Princeton, and is still living off daddy? And kills dad over a measely $200?
Throw the book at this punk.
The State of New York will gladly supply him lodging for free from now on. I hope he isn’t waiting for his inheritance.
I guess he figures he’ll do better financially with mom.
A LOT of people that I work with are still “helping out” their 20-some kids as they meander in out of jobs and community college, looking for that illusive career that suits them. What’s funny, though, is that NONE OF THEM are immigrants - they are all 100% Americans (mostly all whites).
...but I work with a lot of immigrants too. They seem to have NO PROBLEM assuring their kids quickly get a useful education and are QUICKLY off the parental payroll.
Funny thing is, the American parents TRUST our public schools, while the immigrant parents want NOTHING TO DO WITH THOSE SCHOOLS, and even though many (most, actually) do send their kids to those (public) schools, NONE OF THEM actually rely on those schools to get their kids educated - rather they take care of that themselves and through their own organizations.
30 years old and he’s on an allowance and a generous one at that.
My parents didn’t believe in allowances, but the going rate in my neck of the woods was around 25 cents a week. And those allowances ended when a kid reached his teens.
Father should have cut off his moocher son altogether years ago. If he had, maybe the spoiled brat would have learned responsibility.
So, the father and mother were enabling the 30 year old kid! I’m not blaming the parents, but I am. If they had been some real parents, they would have kicked the bastard kid out of the house and made him live under a bridge.
So how did the kid get ahold of a handgun in Manhattan? Oh yeah, daddy was one of the elite in New York City that can actually get a handgun license.
“What, 600 a month in New York, and then cut to 400? Not much of an allowance, especially for a 30-year-old.”
True, but what does a newspaper route pay there?
What - this 30 year old “child” was still dependent????
Is the kid mentally disabled in some way?
I really can’t understand why a 30 year old would have an allowance at all unless they were mentally functioning at a far far lower level.
