Sheriff with a heart of gold treats boy, nine, to the hunting trip of a lifetime - after the boy mistakenly sent an adorable letter to the wrong state
A 9-year-old Pennsylvania got the hunting trip of a lifetime after mistakenly writing to writing to a sheriff 600 miles away in South Carolina.
Alex Collins' mother saw a Facebook post by Chester County Sheriff Alex Underwood's program to take small children hunting and fishing and little Alex wrote the sheriff a heartfelt letter.
He explained that he desperately wanted to learn to hunt, but he didn't have anybody to teach him.
**SNIP**
But there was a problem: Sheriff Underwood is in Chester County, South Carolina. Alex Collins lives in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Rural American Sheriffs always seem to be the guys who ‘get it’ the most. God Bless them all!
news that is not fit to print by Americans.....thanks Daily Mail.
Chester County, South Carolina has a real treasure in Sheriff Underwood. God bless him!
Another example of the breed: John Hulett of Lowndes County, AL. John, a black man, was active in the civil rights movement and Lowndes County -- located between Montgomery and Selma -- was one of its epicenters.
In 1970, he ran for Sheriff and was the first black elected to office in the county. He quickly earned the respect of every resident of the county -- black and white. He effectively enforced the law and played no racial favorites. He was a fair and honest man. And, unlike so many of his contemporaries, incorruptible.
John passed in 2006...and the country lost a good man.
Alex Underwood reminds me of John Hulett.
Hats off to Alex! What a good guy and if we had more like him this Country would be 100% better for it. That little guy will NEVER forget this experience and also all of the other folks that helped make it happen.
Its great to see positive LEO news!
God bless Sheriffs Underwood & Welsh.
Chester County PA appears to be equally blessed.
I’m in Lowndes county. Sheriff Hulett was truly a great man. He made a huge difference in how the county came out of the civil rights era. He treated everyone the same and would not allow any “getting even” by thugs. He was much beloved by all. We have another good black sheriff now.
