Return to Ann Arbor: Jim Harbaugh explains his move back to Michigan
SI ^ | December 30, 2014 | Michael Rosenberg

On the plane back to Michigan -- a journey that took a few hours or almost three decades, depending on your perspective -- Jim Harbaugh looked at his kids.

“They had some stocking caps from my kids from the ‘M Den,’” he told SI.com. “My daughter Addie was wearing a scarf. We had a gift bag of some hats and things. When I saw my kids in the maize and blue, it was a terrific feeling. It took me back to a place …

“I remember going to Moe’s Sporting Goods, and I’m looking at my kids with their stuff, their scarves, their Michigan gloves ... I would have loved to have that as a kid. You would hope you would get something like that for Christmas.”

Lots of difference of opinion here but the guy has won at all level from Div II San Diego to the 49ers. Who does not get excited about Harbaugh going against Meyer for the next couple of years.

Yes. This is great for michigan, the big ten, and all of college football. I am not a michigan fan but I am excited. For those negative about Harbaugh, find a coach who’s had more success in the past five years. Bellichek? Saban? Pete Carroll? Maybe those guys. Maybe. That’s rarified air and he’s right up there with them.

Me...just another football factory going after another. One or the other (or both) will be gone within 5 years. That’s how they roll.

The same could have been said of the 49ers after the 2010 season. Harbaugh shows up and comes within a few plays of playing in the Super Bowl in his first season there.

Hoke’s recruiting classes were top 10 each year.. He just didn’t know how develop kids so I am thinking turnaround will be pretty quick with Harbaugh as his track record proves.. He even made San Diego, an non scholarship FCS school competitive fairly quickly.

Sorry but Harbaugh is functioning with a few screws loose. The long Michigan nightmare will only get darker and longer.

None of this will even matter as the new rising power in Big 10 football will be the University of Minnesota.

We almost got the trifecta this year. We got the Little Brown Jug (Michigan) and Floyd of Rosedale (Iowa) and came close to getting Paul Bunyan’s Axe (Wisconsin).

Bear's "Junction Boys" went 1-9 their first season. It won't happen overnight, but the culture will definitely change, and that's Job One.

Harbaugh will have those guys running through walls for him.

or, for normal working folks, that's about $3,846 per hour.

I can truly understand the deep satisfaction of returning home assuming the role of top dog knowing he earned it in the trenches. Salary be damned, he’ll earn plenty but will have a lot more fun doing it.
