You were always like this, Schaeffer. Youre still wacky enough to call the GOP-e religious right FCOL.

I just read this on Salon as was going to post it but you beat me to it. Schaeffer has flipped his lid.

What began to bother me was that so many of our new friends on the religious right seemed to be rooting for one form of apocalypse or another.
It was the Communist spouting New Democrats who wanted political apocalypse and the destruction of the family unit.

Schaeffer writes as though he left the Christian faith and conservative values behind last week. In fact, he left 30 years ago. This article of his is nothing but gratuitous showboating.
Having said that, Schaeffer highlights some of the problems with per-millenial dispensationalism which his father unfortunately espoused. However, it’s pointless to debate the point with someone who isn’t a Christian. For him, the issue is irrelevant. The only thing to be done with Schaeffer is to share the gospel with him and pray for him.

If, for instance, crime went down dramatically in New York City, for any other reason than a reformation and revival, wouldnt that make the prophets of doom look silly? And if the economy was booming without anyone repenting, what did that mean?
Well, I cannot speak for the evangelicals, but the conservative Catholics I know, and radio hosts in NYC both liberal and conservative, attributed the decline in crime in NYC to 1. Giuliani replacing Dinkins and 2. Demographics. In ancient times, as today, plenty of places were debauched and prosperous at the same time (then: Corinth, Sodom and Gomorrah, Ninevah; Today: San Fran, NYC, Copenhagen).
If technology or social sciences actually made socialism work as intended, and resulted in lower unemployment and inflation and less debt and better overall health care, it would STILL be wrong because it works against the nature of man, and undermines his dignity.
We live in bigger houses, our cars need fewer repairts, we have 20 times as many channels, and we have half of the world's information at our fingertips. We are not better people. Our children are not as happy. There is more loneliness. The earth is not our final home. What has 50 years of therapy, international fame and wealth brought Woody Allen but despair? We still need a Saviour.

Liberals are so funny. They’ll do anything for attention: stab their families and friends in the back, insult their own parents, twist their way around dissociating EVERYTHING from “right” and “wrong,” and, mostly, lie. They lie constantly, because they don’t believe in truth.
ANYTHING GOES BUT
When I say “anything,” there is always one common thread:
“ME.” It’s ALWAYS about “ME.”
This little worm makes me puke.

His self-loathing is well earned. It pains me to imagine what it must be like in his desperately befuddled mind. Clearly he has never been neither Christian nor Conservative.
“...Fast-forward 30 years to the early 21st century: The messengers, leaders and day-to-day issues changed. For instance, we were into taking away a womans right to choose. Today its about gay bashing and denying climate change and now the nakedly racist anti-immigrant movement threat is part of the reaction to the black man in the White House...”

Just got done with Frank’s book Patience With God.
He’s a man wandering about the middle of the battle field. He had bad experiences with the goofiness of high-profile Evangelicals, and then noticed that there is an equal and opposite intolerant fundamentalism on the Dawkins/Hitchens end of atheism. He committed Ham’s sin against his father Noah, revealing too much about his parents, Francis and Edith.
The book was full of I/me/my/mine sentimentality, a grandfather just trying to write his own definitions of philosophical balance. I don’t think he has found ‘it’ yet. The ‘it’ is Jesus.

If you become an ‘icon’ in Christianity and your name isn’t Jesus Christ or “The Pope” (this current ‘thing’ we have aside), then you likely got that way through non christian means.

"You see, only in the Mafia, the British Royal family and big time American religion is a nepotistic rise to power seen as normal."
Only a lazy mind speaking to an uncritical audience would attempt such sloppy rubbish. Nepotism is very much alive in all walks of life. To cite just one example, my local newspaper - The Seattle Times - has been handed down within the Blethen family for about 5 generations.
