A blizzard warning is in effect for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The National Weather Service says up to 8 inches of snow could accumulate above 11,500 feet. The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Nothing that hasn’t happened before.

Q: I would like to know if it can snow in Hawaii??
A: The answer is “yes”. It snows here every year, but only at the very summits of our 3 tallest volcanoes (Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea and Haleakala). The snow level almost never gets below 9000 feet in Hawaii during the winter, but since these mountains are taller than 13,000 feet, 13,000 feet, and 10,000 feet, respectively, they get dusted with snow a few times a year. It rarely stays on the ground for more than a few days though.
Although the rest of the island chain enjoys warm tropical weather the entire year-round, there have been “freak” cold storms a few times this century that have brought local snow storms down to as low as 3000 to 4000 feet. This snow has melted very quickly, however.

snows there every year....
I know what we’re all thinking but let’s face it, we’ll never be that lucky!
Doesn’t seem to mention blizzard conditions.
Kilauea’s too low to get hit by the blizzard. That would make a very Icelandic-looking show if it did.
Typical question from an enviro-’RAT politician, “Could the weight of the snow cause the islands to become top heavy and flip over?”

So it is unlikely the golf courses will have blizzard conditions?
Pray America is waking
Must be global warming.
And here I am with 5 snowmobiles sitting in the driveway ready to go in NY. and it’s going to be 50 degrees today.

Excellent. We have our winner!
For the few of us here who may not get the reference, this can never be seen enough:

Only on the mountains. Good thing it won’t be on the golf courses.
I haven't seen a Flexible Flyer in centuries nor ANY kind of steel runner sled .
An American staple as important as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the 50's
You are exaggerating, of course.
I grew up with those sleds and typically we'd run them up and down a hill just a few times a season during the winter months. Eventually they'd end up in a corner of a basement or garage and be unceremoniously disposed of or sold for a few dollars at a yard sale.
You can still buy the same Flexible Flyer sled today (steel and wood) for just under $100.
I had plenty of them as a kid. ........good times!
We had an occasional flurry for Hallowe'en but almost always, white Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Our Flexible Flyers, when outgrown, were passed down to the younger kids (8 in my family, 6 boys, 2 girls)
Maybe you Connecticut Yankees were too sophisticated to have that kind of fun ... frozen lips, iced pant legs up to the shin, ice caked mittens that had a taste when you put them near your mouth to blow on and melt them ... (see ... THERE'S a powerful magic! .. the olfactory sense )
Happy time warping, and ..
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to all us time travellers
I think they have a ski resort up there with tow ropes. No ski lift. Hard to believe.
Good. The Obozos are there.................
