Yup. Cowboy was awesome. I have Hahruhi on DVD (all of my anime I buy).

Voltron was just great. Cheeze to the heavens but great. I used to watch it every morning after working night shift. It was on right before Robotech ;)

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bubblegum Crisis/Ad Police Files, Full Metal Panic/Fumofu, Excel Saga...so much awesome viewing. People may not like all or even some of it. But for those of us that do, it’s great stuff.

In all seriousness, Some people just don’t like the stuff. Which is OK. As KC Lion often tells me ‘We like what we like” ;)

But if you want something different, there’s some incredibly good stuff to be had across all genres. It really is more than ‘just’ giant robots with cheerleader schoolgirl pilots. It’s also true there is some incredibly BAD stuff to be had (and it used to be expensive learning which was which pre internet). Then there’s the Hentai stuff (tentacle porn) that most wishing to reatin sanity avoid. But there is something good to be had for about any viewing taste

So true Norm, you can't help what you like, and you shouldn't be ashamed or hid from it, whether its Ponies, or Music.

Even if it's not the IN thing. Everyone needs an escape from politics every once and while.

OH and here is Neon Genesis Evangelion in a Nutshell:

Well like I said, I have nothing but praise for Deathnote, which I was turned to by MY PARENTS.

As a child of the mid 80s, with formative years on early internet, even pre-WWW, I’m well aware of the seedy side. (Which drives me bonkers on, say, people criticizing MLP for jerks that employ Rule 34, to which I tell the critics just run a search for anything they can think of, rule 34)

I’ll look up some of the recommendations. Because I honestly wanted some Freeper input. I got a lot of what I expected, and some of what I did not.

The best animes are good (really really good) but there is a lot of crap out there too. For newer stuff I usually check out Garkada’s anime reviews (Glass Reflection) to find the good ones.

His reviews are very entertaining, even if the anime he’s reviewing is crap. (His review of the awful School Days is hilarious.)

That Rule 34 thing definitely applies ;)

All the stuff people mentioned so far is really good IMO. The only problem is that IF it hooks you, get ready to chase the white rabbit because the hole goes pretty deep. there is a LOT of good stuff. Whats worse is that most of it takes multiple viewings to really get all of the depth they put into them. After 10 years, there are still things I see in Evangelion that just floor me in a ‘how did i miss that/it’s so OBVIOUS sort of way.

Ultimately I think that, more than anything is why I enjoy it as I do. There’s a lot of that. Even the schoolgirl space pirate stuff has undercurrents running through it that are anything but comedy.

Shinji was Emo before there was emo. I think he was the model that Emo was built on. And yes. That vid sums it up EXACTLY ;)

So... should we have Pony discussion threads on Season 5, like many of the other popular shows do?

Just to see what happens?

Considering some of the liberalism that floods those shows, and the (not all) Freeper Left frequenting them, MLP would be a far more conservative discussion topic.

Robotech/Macross is something that I regret not paying attention to at the time. It came along to the local syndicated stations right about the time I got my drivers license and started getting home much later the the afternoon/early evenings.

I just don’t think the premise “watching girl-like shows is OK for men” is true. Not that big a deal.

I was just generally picked on and mocked and excluded, and I am a girl.

If you guys are really interested, you can start and thread and ask first off if anyone wants to be on a pinglist for it.

(Not I - anime is definitely not my thing, even if I can sympathize with appreciating it. As long as it’s not commie-sympathy pings, I’m OK with it. ;-) )

F anything commie.

We’re sitting here trying to appreciate art, regardless of the supposed target age group.

But the same basic principles apply. Individualistic freedom and non-interference from oppressive government.

That’s the beauty of DVD ;) Never too late. But I get your meaning.

There’s a lot of stuff from back then I wish I had seen/experienced sooner. I never saw Bubblegum Crisis until around 2000 or a bit before but had read about it since about 93/4. It was more than worth the wait. I actually have to re-buy it since my original DVDs got mauled in a move. (Note to self, it’s Christmas!) I ended up with the whole series/spinoffs over time. None as good as the original but all good in their way.

I was in an anime desert in the 80s and much of 90s. There were only a few of us into it and what we had, most of it was imported and ridiculously expensive. We’d have mugged crippled puppies and their elderly owners for a full run of Robotech/Macross on VHS. It would have cost literally a couple thousand dollars to import it. Trying to find normal anime from that era and not ‘Urotskudoji” tenticle porn was all but impossible.

Wanna see Freeper Heads explode?

MLP is LOADED top to bottom with both Christian and constitutional concepts. It is FILLED top to bottom with very non liberal and ANTI liberal ideas. It is more a danger to the left than the right. And all of it is in your face front an center.

It promotes the idea of good and evil. It promotes the idea of DEFEATING evil. It promotes traditional gender roles, charity, loyalty, compassion and the idea that everything has a place.

I would ask which of those topics and positions makes it ‘a show for little girls’ because that’s all foundational and pretty deep stuff.

NOW lets see the freaking begin ;)

Adam Smith, 19, who had learning difficulties..

Right. A "grown man" with learning disabilities "deserved it."

Comments like yours make me sick.
