This gesture, of dropping to one's knee as a sign of respect, is either very new (because i haven't seen it in my lifetime) or very old.

The gesture is very, very, old.

A fallen soldier of the Ukraine, once under the Soviet boot, receives a snapped-to position of attention, and a given slow salute, from this old Cold War veteran.
