Here is a copy of the original line sketch on the watercolor paper. The starting point was in the lower left side, and this is one continuous line ending up with my signature in the lower right corner. You can also see "pause" points where I stopped (but never lifted the pencil off of the paper), to check spacing and dimension as I was moving over the subject. At no time was the pencil ever lifted off of the paper.
Here is the finished product
About Russell Black
TOPICS: Arts/Photography; Chit/Chat; Education
KEYWORDS: art; painting; watercolor
This is an example of the approach taken by one of America's "California Style" Watercolorists. He made this painting of the Yellow Bus Line still being used in Yellowstone National Park. We show it for the purpose of displaying the great ability of fine artists to make realism while abstracting the subject in other ways as shown here.

I tried “painting” using Corel Painter. When done it looked like I was back in 3rd grade and had done my first painting....
For those that want to try your hand at painting. print out the 2 images then use the line drawing and try to copy the painting below. I know I could not do so as I fail even at paint by numbers.

Here's another one to practice on. Called "Bend in the Virgin" also by Russell Black. Sorry I don't have the line drawing as he made this one directly outdoors.
