Getting involved in armed street rebellion is not something I would consider.
If someone wants to go all Rambo on a riot, good luck with it, and write your ID info on your body with a sharpie (like the rioters do) so your corpse can be IDd later.,
Many states impose criminaly penalties for failing to promptly report a lost or stolen firearm.
name rank and serial number!

1. Concealed. Limited open carry (hunting), incidental open carry on my property while doing chores etc. My wife knows 90% of the time, my other family members can assume but mostly unsure. I don’t want family to be making assumptions about my status and making potentially incorrect decisions on how to respond to a threat. I carry 90% of the time (even in my PJs, don’t you?
2. Not other than stated above. I carry for self preservation, not display or messaging. I want my defense tools to be as big a surprise to everybody involved. I don’t want a threat to assess me as a risk and therefore pre-emptively engage, I cannot live in condition black, but red is the norm but my head is on a swivel by training and active decision process.
3. Depends. Assessment is key. Think for 2/3rds the available time, act in the remainder-second guessing will put one behind bars or in a coffin. Scan, Identify, Assess Decide, Act.
4. Same.
5. Depends. Only my own, and then only if the threat was inside my occupied home or reasonably assessed to be intent on entering my home. Establish a rapport with local LE and be a good observer, contact LE if concerned about suspicious activity concerning your “castle” as well as external/neighborhood. Don’t cry “wolf” or you’ll lose credibility.
6. Retired Army.
7. Yes. dotgov as well as privately acquired, Instructor cert by several well known entities.
8. Experienced SD attorney on retainer, everyone should have one in their plan, and on retainer. Umbrella policy as well.
Freebie: Layer your security at home with passive and active measures ranging from proper doors and windows, clear observation to and from home to street, security/surveillance systems ( deductible on HO insurance in most cases). Secure out buildings, motion activated lights or area lighting if you want to pay for it. Post signage that depicts a security system logo, be careful about displaying your personal wealth etc. Limit visitors to some degree- most homes are cased by friends or acquaintance’s, even if accidentally. Be private and an unknown quantity, bad guys like to know or reasonably expect they have an advantage over their victims. If you chose arms, then master them with good training and regular practice, scenario driven discussion and logic helps with the mental conditioning required to be aware and alert. Avoidance is the best defense, active response is the worst case, someone always loses!
1) Concealed 99%, open in certain situations. 2)Tennessee permits open with carry permit but see #1. 3) Thug against granny; yes. Thug vs thug; no, Granny vs Granny; no. 4)See #3. 5)My property and neighbors; yes. 6) Army ‘73 to ‘76. 7)See #6 8)If needed. Hope that helps and I’m reluctant to abuse you but you could figure this out with a little common sense which would also tell you you’re most likely going to get responses from the more militant paranoid. Hate that for ya.
You want to open carry? Fine, but essentially you are “making a statement.” It’s more of a political act than anything else.
If it was just tactics and defense, why would anybody give up the invaluable element of surprise? An open gun invites bushwacking from behind, say, as you come out of the men’s room at the mall, after having been observed going down that dark hallway strapping iron.
To me, it’s not worth losing the element of surprise.
Now, if you are talking about a planned open carry rally, that is a different animal, and if you are into making public statements like that, fine. But it has NOTHING to do with the best tactical employment of an open or concealed weapon. NOTHING.
I can't conceal carry anything larger than a Jennings Auto .22lr without printing or being uncomfortable.
Not everyone is a big guy.

Why on earth would you ask such personal questions here, on an open forum?
If the threat to me, mine or immediate area individuals has opportunity, capability and intent and me, mine or immediate area individuals can not elude then shoot to stop the threat, two rounds center mass and one round to the head as fast and accurately as possible.
.....And remember boys and girls...it better to have one side of the story than two...
Stay safe.
I'd step in if a more helpless person were being attacked, but not with a gun unless challenged to do so (anything but bare knuckles I guess). On my own property, I'd point a gun at someone stealing my stuff, but I wouldn't shoot them unless they came at me or my family. I'd rather replace my TV than kill a man. If someone opens my car door or reaches in, it's every man for himself... drive away if possible, otherwise the lead starts flying. My biggest fear is always being reluctant to pull the trigger. It's easy to talk smack, it's completely different when it happens. It did happen to me once, in the pitch dark, inside my home. I was frozen with fear, but knew what I had to do... and I stood there dreading it with all my soul, I knew what it was going to be like after it happened. I thank the almighty that it never came to that. It always makes me wonder if the experience helped or not and will I be able to actually do it if backed into a corner. It was a no-brainer when my wife and baby were in the house with me, but circumstances are as unpredictable as their are thugs. Who knows...
may issue or shall issue is concealed carry none the less.
my county limits me to when and where I can carry, as do other counties.
my ‘I don’t know’ statement was for the apparent troll who wrote this. what I do and do not know being my business.
2. Would you open carry if state law permitted it?
No.
3. Would you step in and defend someone you do NOT know if they were involved in a one-on-one altercation?
'Altercation'? Define that word in context. A verbal argument? A shoving match? A fist fight? A baseball bat versus fists? The context makes a huge difference. Insufficient data to form a coherent response at this time.
4. Would you step in and defend someone you do NOT know if they were involved in a many-on-one altercation?
See #4.
5. Would you step in to protect property from theft or arson?
Again, define 'property'. Mine? Someone else's? Also, define 'step in'.
6. Are you now, or formerly, LEO or military?
Immaterial.
7. Do you have formal self defense training, e.g., Thunder Ranch or similar?
See #7.
8. Do you have or have access to legal representation "just in case"?
Given that this is still the United States of America, yes. So does everyone else.
I am assuming all carriers will protect themselves, family and family property.
This is what I meant by the requests for clarification above. Your last statement defines what I would do...i.e...watch out for me and mine...with regard to use of firearms. Period.
On that I will agree to disagree....my girl Friday is 110 pounds soaking wet with rocks in her pockets and she carries a full size 1911A1 . You CAN conceal a full size or compact pistol and not print. Try harder....:o) Got to agree with Travis as usual on this one.
Stay safe.
It's a well worn joke here on FR. Generally on threads concerning firearms and specifically regarding firearms registration.
Come on, if you can’t hide a single-stack 9mm like a S&W M&P Shield, you are not even trying. The are 1” wide at their thickest. Do you work as a lifeguard at a pool in Miami? If you wear shirts and pants, you can conceal a slim 9.
Good to see you around.

I refuse to be uncomfortable when I carry. When open carry is available, I'll use it.
It's not surprising big guys that don't have the problem want to minimize it.
