SEATTLE -- Try as we might, we simply just can't outdo Seattle Police spokesman Jonah Spangenthal-Lee's apt description of what happened Wednesday in Leschi Park, when officer Vanessa Flick, "was forced to put herself between a crowd of bystanders and the razor-sharp talons of two erotically-entwined eagles... after the birds crash-landed in a park."
(snip)
A witness told Flick the birds "appeared to spiral in mid air" together before falling to the ground.
Flick said the birds weren't fighting and didn't have any signs of trauma. The plot thickened.
Police say a second man, who told Flick he was knowledgeable about bald eagles, said he believed the birds had locked talons and became stuck after taking part in a mating ritual.

“Did the earth move for you sweetheart?”
CC
did she protect the crowd from the birds, or the birds from the crowd?
Fly United!

Birds of a feather..
Cute how they blacked out their eyes ... eagles usually do that frisky stuff at altitude like around 10k feet or so. They hang on as they drop. I guess either she or he was having too much fun to let go ....
PS - She’s saying “you let go” and like he’s saying “no, you first” >thud<
In flagrante, but not incognito!
So...eagles mate in midair while in semi-free fall.
Learned something new.
Ya, they lock talons and free fall from around 10k feet ... I watch them during mating season from where I live. A wonder to behold. Beautiful thing to watch.
“When Eagles Dare”
no eagles do NOT mate midair.....they romance fly in midair but unlike hawks/owls, they cannot ungrasp talons at will
and sometimes fall talon’d if you will...
eagles pair up, build a nest and boink at the nest til she is preggers
Anyone catch the reference? His niece worked at my daughter’s elementary school ;)
Met his first wife about 5 decades ago, just finished the last wife’s book, “Lady Blue Eyes”.
In my network days, he was shooting a special upstairs. They handed him a schedule with about a week’s worth of rehearsals on it, he said he’d be coming in on the last day when the audience got there.
Saw him live once. His conductor made an entrance, gave the orchestra the downbeat, and they started the opening instrumental medley. When the lights came down, he snuck into the orchestra pit and replaced the conductor. The overture ended, the audience applauded, the conductor turned around, and it was Sinatra. Great opening!
And... yeah... you got the reference.
That makes a lot more sense & is safer, for eagles to do their canoodling in the aerie, rather than trying to join the Mile High club.
After the eaglets are hatched, the parents spend all day going after & bringing back fish, fish, & more fish until their progeny can take wing,
Google eagle nests. There are live eagle nest cams everywhere. Beyond awesome
