Strictly speaking, Fascism is a bigger danger in America than Socialism. Both are "leftist" positions, and distinguishing between them is sometimes difficult. Nevertheless, it's important to do so.

Socialism calls for the public (i.e. government) ownership of the means of production. Fascism allows private ownership of the means of production, but calls for government control, in effect negating the the most important features of private ownership.

You can fill in the list with more recent events as you wish. My point is that this problem has been with us for a long time. Getting rid of the "infection" won't be easy, and we must always be on the alert for any relapses.
