My Pittsburgh relatives pronounce “Iron” (as in “Iron City”) as just one syllable. Sounds like “barn” without the “b.”

He likes it. He attended a Board of Directors meeting last week at the Ritz Carlton, which he found very interesting. They won’t be doing anything between Christmas and NYs because his association, just like xsteen’s, CLOSES FOR THAT WEEK. They are off and will not have to take leave.

The exact vowel sound can be up for debate, but it’s clearly one syllable.
This is not some weird one syllable word like “Pirates.”

That reminds me of the first time I came across the word “lamentable.” Of course, I wasn’t a super genius MIT economist at the time.

Exactly - as do the atheists

charges are still pending. police said she appeared impaired. honestly, I feel horrible for the young woman, she has to bear this burden of knowing she took a young man’s life, for the entirety of her own.

I love accents and different ways of saying words - I find it interesting that, for the most part, black people pronounce the word Aunt like "ont" or "on-tee" - where we in the south pronounce it like ant - or pecan - some say "pee-can", we say "puh kahn"
I was watching tv the other day - a gathering of teens/college age kids in Houston and there was definitely a common sound to their speech but it wasn't southern! We are losing our southern accent I think

I looked in the dictionary and was genuinely surprised that the one syllable pronunciation is not given as an option. It’s completely normal.

People from the northeast (like Boston) say “ont” as well. My college roommate from there said that.
