Six potential effects of a Supreme Court ruling against HHS on Obamacare

On Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to review whether the insurance subsidies through President Obama's healthcare law are illegal in 36 states, because the text of Obamacare limited subsidies to those states that set up their own exchanges.

Here are six potential outcomes if the Supreme Court rules against the Department of Health and Human Services and declares such subsidies illegal.

1. Uncertainty keeps repeal flame alive The Supreme Court is coming at a time when there's an internal debate among Republicans about how the new Senate majority should approach the prospect of repealing Obamacare. Ever since the major provisions of the law went into effect Jan. 1, there’s been a debate within the Republican Party as to whether pursuing its full repeal was still a realistic option given that millions of Americans were receiving benefits. By taking up the case, the Supreme Court is already creating uncertainty about the law, which strengthens the case of the pro-repeal crowd that the law should not be viewed as a fait accompli. If the Supreme Court rules against HHS, it will bolster that view even more.

2. Americans lose subsidies

Millions of Americans in 36 states who obtained insurance through the federal exchange (most associated with the healthcare.gov website) would lose those subsidies, thus making it more expensive for them to purchase coverage, meaning that many would wind up uninsured. On the flip side, federal taxpayers would save hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade, because the government would no longer have to pay out these subsidies.

Repubs should wait for the supremes decision.

If it says the Non-Exchange subsidies are illegal, LET THE PREMIUM INCREASES TAKE EFFECT, let the tax penalties take effect for a quarter, and THEN push for repeal.

Unfortunately, people only learn valuable lessons when they feel PAIN.

It is nature’s way, after all.

Here are the simple facts about Obamacare and how the American people will deal with it.

Those with jobs who pay for insurance have seen policies become horrible and the costs rise 200-300%.

The ones that would scream about losing their insurance would be those that would be total takers and expecting the free insurance. Well, in CA we had medical for that and I think other states had their bad insurance as well for those who didn't pay.
Now all have bad insurance.

Repeal this crap, give a voucher for a year to those who can't pay and suggest they either go to work or prove they are 100% disabled and deserving of welfare.

Also, nobody is mentioning all the illegals who are birthing probably 50% of the American babies for free and then though illegal many grab child support and other dole stuff through all the services.
Close the border and only allow people to become residents if they can prove they can earn 125% above poverty and stay off the dole. That right there will make the cost of medical for Americans go way down IMO.

Agree. 100%

People have to suffer personally before they begin to understand.

If the Court rules that the law means what it says, FedGov should take back the cost of subsidies from those who accept illegal subsidies. They know or should know that they are stealing, and they are responsible for their own actions. As an added bonus, if those who are considering accepting these illegal subsidies consider the risk of having to pay for overpriced but low-quality insurance, they are less likely to participate, and it will contribute to Obamacare’s failure.

Repeal the freaking monstrosity, get the government out of it,expand health savings accounts, give tax brakes to companies, don’t force insurance companies to give every procedure for FREE,the cost will come down and you won’t need subsidies

Your post makes too much sense and therefore those ideas will never be implemented - unfortunately.
