Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson avoided jail time on Tuesday in a plea agreement reached with prosecutors to resolve his child abuse case.
Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault under the deal that Montgomery County state District Judge Kelly Case approved during a court hearing. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.

He also “avoided” an opportunity to prove in court that he was using justifiable parental discipline, as any other parent would be able to do.
But he had to forfeit that right due to pre-judgment by NFL, sports media and “fans” who raised holy hell and denied him the “presumption of innocence” in this rush to judgment culture we now live in.
In other words he had no chance to absolve himself or be vindicated.
What did they do? Spank him with a switch?
IMO this is a good outcome. The guy is going to take mandated parenting classes which he clearly needs. Hopefully he can move forward and have a good relationship with his kids.

Did they ever figure out how many mothers of his children were involved? I remember seeing an older news story when that hadn’t been factually determined yet.

I think there were two kids with two separate mothers that he went too far with. Hopefully he is sincerely sorry and the parenting classes will give him a new outlook on punishment.
