Thanks, TADSLOS, for providing the hard figures to confirm my admittedly anecdotal evidence. The numbers at that link aren’t skewed by hussein and his central government cronies. They are factual and quite authentic. I stand by initial post refuting that El Paso is safe and I likewise continue to doubt the veracity of that top ten list.
Thanks for the interesting site.
However, would like to point out that there is not necessarily major contradiction between the link I posted and the one you did.
QC Press ranked El Paso the lowest crime city over 500,000 population based on six specific crimes. Neighborhood Scout rates cities based on the 8-crime FBI Crime Index.
Ran a number of cities just to see what happened on NS:
NYC 27
San Diego 27
El Paso 22
Tampa 18
Boston 15
Denver 12
Jacksonville 10
New Orleans 10
Ft Worth 9
Chicago 8
Dallas 8
Nashville 7
Portland 6
San Francisco 6
St Petersburg 5
Seattle 5
Houston 5
Miami 4
Kansas City 3
San Antonio 3
Detroit 2
Orlando 2
Memphis 2
St. Louis 1
Atlanta 1
As you can see, El Paso isn’t far off the pace by NS criteria, and certainly beats other Texas cities.
I’ve never been to El Paso except driving through on I-10, but I thought the claim that El Paso is crime-ridden compared to other cities seemed a little excessive.
El Paso is, as you say, heavily Hispanic. But that’s not the ethnic group that runs crime up the most. I suspect a strong correlation between black percentage of population and ranking on the list above. Some cities come out better than others simply because they incorporate larger areas of suburbs and dilute the innter city crime rate.
For example, the neighborhood in which I presently live has in the last 5 years gone from mostly black to mostly Central American. It’s much quieter and safer now.
BTW, interesting that Detroit didn’t come in dead last!
It is quite interesting and much appreciation is due to TADSLOS for making me aware of it. As you can surmise, I was not in any way seeking to be antagonistic on the matter of El Paso. The data seemed off to me and my skepticism was triggered. Anyway, this turned out to be good, informative discussion but that's par for the course here on Free Republic.
