Morning FRiends!!
Good morning n’@!
I was reading Twitter last night...Joe Bastardi says SNOW this weekend (late Friday thru Saturday).
Snow.
I want to cry.
I heard the same thing! Drag out the winter duds!
On a happier note: I have had severe knee pain - getting worse - starting about two years ago. The last two mornings, I’ve noted that I can go up and down stairs with little problem and I don’t have pain when I get out of bed. This morning, it was almost all gone! I ran up and down the stairs to show Mr S. The only thing I can think of that changed is that I haven’t made bread for about a week and a half. I haven’t had time. Recipe took three Tbls of wheat gluten.
So, is it possible I have gluten intolerance? My stomach used to get really hard and bloated as well, and that is gone too. I used to scoff at the whole gluten intolerance thing. Is it possible I have it??
Oh, and I forgot to mention that I started making my own bread about two years ago! (bread machine). Gonna have to change recipes, I guess!
Good morning!
Last weekend was Joe’s final winter forecast on Weartherbell...so disappointing! 60 inches of snow for us! He did say there would be breaks of warm springlike weather all winter so that helps.
I can’t believe we had 60 inches last year. It didn’t seem that much to me.
Check this out. I’ve been seriously thinking about trying the BRAt diet. But giving up my bread....ooooooohhhhhh!

Boy that sounds like celiacs!
Our daughter was diagnoses after years of stomach issues, in her late teens. She is raising grandbaby gf (and she has been a happy non colicky baby). Our next to youngest (who closely resembles our daughter in so many ways) also seems to have it (tho he has never been tested). He does avoid gluten esp around stressful periods (his stomach acts up horribly).
We think (amateur diagnosis) that the gluten intolerance comes from PaDads side of the family. There are a lot of non traditional (very thin) type 2 diabetics (and diabetes is one of the issues a lifetime of mal absorbed nutrients leads to). It’s our guess, as we (anecdotally) KNOW I absorb EVERY calorie:)
Son in law has a bread machine and makes AWESOME gluten free breads...there ARE are Recioes out there. The only thing that seems really different to me is gf pasta. Boy is THAT tricky to boil. You miss the draining window by a minute and you have goo.
After we learned of daughter’s celiacs years ago, I did modify some recipes. Like instead of bread crumbs on chicken use instant potato flakes. Read labels and make notes of what causes joint and and bloating (both are swelling issues). Daughter has done really well gf. Son tries, but hard to do in a dorm/cafeteria living arrangement. DH does the worst, because (again it’s more personality) he doesn’t “like” following gf.
Mornin’ everybuddy!
Just checked it out! OMG! I have half those symptoms!
Really great link...and skin rashes are an early sign too (like itchiness after eating gluten—not necessarily a rash, but skin is largest organ—it’s telling you something).
Morning AM! We are talking gluten this morning:)
The thing is, I’ve never had a problem with gluten before I started making my own bread. The recipe I always use requires a LOT of gluten. Is it possible that I just have to cut down on gluten and not eliminate it altogether? I never had most of those symptoms until I started eating that bread.
Maybe I’ll try the BRA(c) diet: Bananas, rice, applesauce and coffee. Sorry, I REFUSE to give up the coffee! lol!
Anyway, we’ll see how I’m feeling this week. If it IS gluten, it would explain the weird itchy spots I get - on my elbow, my hand, back of my neck, etc.
Morning AM!
I’ll ask my daughter, but I seem to remember us being told potatoes were ok on BRAT diet too.
There’s lots of great gf items out there these days. And it can’t hurt to take a break from it & then slowly reintroduce. Get some lemons & put lemon in your water - a great way to help the liver cleanse/detox.
I like that forecast......
