I have debated posting this as it is a hard subject for many including myself.

Me personally I think it will depend on the nature of the event. and the degree and the chance and the timing for some normalcy to return.

There is also this it won't just be the liberal deadbeats 'gib-me-dats' who will want your stuff. Many fellow conservatives on this forum have directly on indirectly indicated that you should share in what they are positive is the highly unlikely event of a SHTF nature.

Many of these types will at first react with total disbelief that something of SHTF nature even occurred and it will take them sometime to even grasp the fact that they are now in it deep.

Then when they grasp just how deep they are in it should they know anyone who prepared they will run not walk to them for help. And woe be that prepper family, friend or acquaintance if you don't rightfully share.

They will be sure to be full of righteous anger as they have always considered preppars more or less with the same words Obama used as be unintelligent people who cling to their guns and Bibles.

If hell has no fury as that of a woman scorned it isn't nothing compared to someone who considers themself above the 'rabble' and hoi polloi in every way proven wrong.

The gib-me-dats hate us already and we know that, but the haut monde when they find those whom they scorned and derided to be right and able to cope with something they can barely believe to be happening.

I wish someone would show people like us, poor as church mice and disabled, how to “prep” for what’s coming. Thanks.

I gotta admit.
The guys at my work tel me that if the zombies take over, they’re coming to my house.
I tell them, “Don’t bother.”
I’ll be at my workplace with my family in an area where there’s only one way in or out, there’s ample water supply, and loads of food.

The railcar entrance/loading area at Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado.
Next to a river.
Loads of bleach to sterilize the water.
And tons of bunnies and deer to keep us fed.

Getting there might be a bitch, but I have a Jeep. I’ll follow the river by my house upstream.

Plus...

My oldest Son is an amazing shot with a rifle.

I've told my two adult children who live several hundred miles away in large cities that they can come here if SHTF.....that includes two grandchildren....

they just roll their eyes....

but we live on 5 acres...have three bathrooms, a large kitchen,a double garage and a big shop, with a walk in cooler and meat shop....we have fenced off garden space...we have many food items and canning equipment, etc...

we'd have to get used to living together but it could be done....

one way to look at it is the more people you have on your side, the better it is for safety...it would add two more grown men to the household, even though my hubby is man enough for three, it still would be good...

Most of us are in built up infrastructure areas, urban, suburban, exurban that will have difficulty surviving SHTF+90 days.

You can stockpile nourishment, water, batteries, ammo and fuel only so long. You can't be self sufficient beyond so many months. If you are elderly you will hit many walls concerning needed meds, sanitation etc.

We don’t have a “Prep Plan”, so much as a bug-out plan. his house is not defendable, and too close to the Gi’medat’s and their main route, the interstate.

The “Bug-out” plan requires getting to large family resources an hour away, but it can be done without using major roads, or going through any towns.

Thinking you can survive long term with just your family is not any more realistic than not prepping at all. Sure, you can survive a few months, maybe a year or more. But when things break down, people and animals get sick, or any of a dozen further disasters strike, you will need some help.

It’s not as if anyone has all the skills required in any situation. Barter and charity need to be part of any plan. Yes, people are stupid, and yes, tough decisions have to be made, but people are more than worthless eaters. There is a reason children were once valued. If you’ve ever really worked the land, you know what I’m talking about. Many hands make light work, and if it comes to fighting, superior numbers are almost always better.

Tough talk and selfishness are not going to rebuild a society that anyone would want to live in. If your plan is to hold out till the bitter end, have at it. My plan is to do more than survive. A couple verses from men much smarter than me:

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help.him up!

One cannot prep to survive a total TEOTWAWKI event alone, or for one family. It is necessary to form a group, a community, to work together. One could prepare for solo survival in a small or local emergency - say three days, or even three weeks - but longer than that, one will need “outside” or collective assistance. The larger the disaster, the longer the disruption of normal social and economic relations and activities, the larger the communal cooperation and effort will have to be.

Jesus spells this out in the parable of the Bridesmaids.

Some trimmed & filled their lanterns, took extra oil and trimmed the wicks - in preparation for a long journey.

Some just grabbed their lamps but made no extra provisions.

When they ran out of oil in the middle of the night and couldn’t see the path, they asked for oil from those who prepared.

They were told no - because then, those that prepared wouldn’t have enough to reach their destination either. All would fail.

I don’t care what anyone else wants me to or thinks I should do with whatever resources I have available for my family before, during or after SHTF. Someone shows up unwelcome before, during, or after, they will immediately know that they’re unwelcome. I suppose it will depend on how my family feels about that person and whether we think they can be a contributing member of the household as to whether or not they’ll be made to feel welcome or unwelcome. I won’t apologize for taking care of my own first and others if I think my help won’t be squandered.

If someone thinks I should be sharing my resources during SHTF, why shouldn’t I be sharing them now?

In a shtf event even the peppers are in trouble. Disease, the neighbors, and our own families will be a problem. A lot of people are going to get killed by the daughter’s boyfriend or the worthless son in law. Everybody has the fantasy that roving bands of black men are going g to be terrorizng the countryside but I think the real killers are going to closer to home.

Uninvited “visitors” are welcome to the extent that they bring more of value than they take in return. That includes their absolute recognition that what’s mine is mine - taking my undisputed ownership of my property is an offense that cannot be balanced by any return. If they can work and produce something of value - skilled farming, metalwork, guard duty, reaction force skills, they may well be welcome. Traders may be welcome if they are well-behaved and covered by one of my family members during negotiations. Eventually, even after SHTF, trade will become extremely important.

Otherwise, any dispute over whether “visitors” are permitted on my property will be very short. Key supplies for responding to guests who feel entitled to things that are not theirs: ammo, a shovel, and the ability to avoid discussing the outcome.
